This is a under utilized idea. One of the biggest complaints of Tiny homes is tracking ouside in & constant cleaning etc.
This would solve much of the irritation in many climates or even with rain/wind. Many of us have immediate entry from our attached garages or porches. Before that it was common to have a breezeway to gradually merge from outside in.
I feel it’s necessary for most cases.
Every problem solver makes a huge difference.
The other biggest compaint is sound carrying anywhere in tiny homes-lacking privacy for more than one person. Making one room very sound proof would be another must for avg. living.
Sometimes it seems like people unness. go too small. Then they regret it bc of not being realistic.
The movement started back 20+ yrs ago w singles & couples who were working possibly going to school etc & wanting to build tiny homes-usually themselves, so they could save & pay cash as much as possible for permenant home, while still having $$ to enjoy life. Most were built w free or inexpensive supplies. A mortgage of 30yrs costs a homeowner 2.5 times the price of home. Then updating & keeping repairs of larger homes also costs much over the time of the home, so paring down or eliminating size of mortgage immediately saves 100’s of thousands.
Or ppl who did want to live small & enjoy time, not working for a home they couldn’t be at bc they were so busy working to pay for it and additional expenses. Also by continuing to save after paying as much cash, prevents the need for getting 2nd mortgages & again paying to borrow that $$…..
It has evolved into more options, but I see families moving older kids/teenagers into some very small places-when that is a time kids need to have space & bring friends over etc. Everyone is different, but it wasn’t really the purpose to live so uncomfortably just to live tiny.
Anyway, adding these few extra sq ft is a big way to have more enjoyment & reduce frustration. Soundproofing is another. Adds some expense, but totally worth it in long run!!
