Adding a larger porch to a tiny house on wheels effectively expands the living area without increasing the interior footprint. This design approach allows occupants to lounge, read, and enjoy outdoor activities while remaining connected to their home. I sure would and am actually planning it! Our house is an extremely popular spot for all our McMansion home owning friends – NEVER dreamed this would happen! Every weekend for the past month we have had 10 – 15 people hanging out in our kitchen/living room! They even bring FOOD! So, they are planning on enlarging the deck for the spring – I will send photos your way. I will even send photos of these crazy dinner parties! What fun – I love our tiny home – thank you for your work in spreading the word….
I would love to see your pictures. I am planning my own tiny house. I spent many years traveling & working in Europe – cooking for lots and lots of people and want to continues to so for “neighbors”.

Looking forward to hearing/seeing more!
Hi there 🙂 I love the tiny house concepts and I have been dreaming of downsizing for almost a year now. I’ve decided that if/when I do build I will maximize living space in my trailer by not building a porch on it. My front porch will be a deck-like detachable one with a tiny roof (possibly find some sunbrella fabric to create a small dormer with? similar idea to the play/swing set structures with a fabric roof) that can disassemble and reassemble easily (in case we want to move it… and I may indeed want to move it because it is my dream to travel). The actual outdoor living area will be a patio lined with the least expensive bricks I can find. This way I can garden right around it and still have outdoor living area that can be expanded if I ever want to do that. I would still be able to reuse the materials and even bring them with me if I ever want to move. Or I could find someone who wants the old ones (cause ya, they are HEAVY) and then do a craigslist search for more in new location. I don’t know yet, but it is fun to dream up new ideas 🙂
That sounds like a cool idea Tracy. I’ve always thought of creating a swinging porch with a latch so you just fold it up for traveling/moving and secure it with some sort of fastener. Lots of creative ways you can do it! Thanks for sharing your ideas.
I love that idea of a fold-down porch. I would also love to put a crank out awning – a small one not too heavy. I’ve also thought about a couple of removable telescoping pedistals in the main room for a dining table when having guests like you find on large sail boats. ‘Tracy in Wi’, I would love to see your pictures. I am planning my own tiny house.
Ultimately my goal is to have a screened in porch (bugs seem to like me and I’m extremely sun sensitive) on my TH I’m building now and will be putting in a doggie door for my two pups to a small yard.
I’d like my porch to be fold up for ease of moving until I get property. Then I will make the porch larger. My front door is on the side not the end of my TH.
