While a professionally-built tiny house is often the dream, it can come with a pretty hefty price tag. Cheeky Monkey is trying to make tiny homes more financially accessible by selling plans, shells, and trailers so you can DIY a tiny house.

You can purchase plans for their Jude and Strawberry tiny homes, and they also sell 18/24/28-foot trailers. Finally, their Blackbird and Jude shells are also available to purchase on their website.

Additionally, they are trying to help connect homeowners/landowners with tiny home dwellers looking for a spot to park. They’ve created a webpage where people with land and those looking for it can connect here.

This is a guest post by Ethan Waldman, author of Tiny House Decisions

When I was sure that I was going to build a Tiny House on Wheels, the first major purchase that I made was a set of plans. Once that was out of the way, I started shopping for trailers.

One of the first major purchases I made for my tiny house on wheels was a flat bed trailer. You certainly can’t start building a tiny house on wheels without one! There are so many options when it comes to trailers. New trailers, used ones, converted trailers from RV’s, farm trailers, etc. One thing seemed certain: trailers were not cheap.

Expandable Tiny Houses with Pop Outs is a guest post by Jay Oistead

This is Jay with Ragsdale Homes and I wanted to share with you some of our current tiny house projects we’re working on.

Directly below is a sneak preview of our new Sunday House which is a transforming tiny home because it has pop outs.

We designed it small so that we can transport it cross country to attend workshops, conventions, and other events.

Once the home is on site and expanded it offers 216 sq. ft. of living space while the perimeter dimensions are only 8’x10′ while traveling.

We are developing a patent pending ‘Room Roll Outs’ so parts of the home can expand and increase livable square footage once on site.

This is a Reader Submitted Q&A — Submit Your Own Here

I was just wondering if there are any tiny house trailers that are designed to a lifetime mileage specification?

Maybe designed for 10,000 lbs load for a maximum of 5000 miles over their lifetime?

Or set up a chart that might show what can be done between 1000 miles and 100,000 miles, and the consumer can judge if that extra expense is worth it.

Of course, the rigidity of the final tiny house adds a substantial amount of strength to the final chassis so those calculations will have to be taken into account as well.

Acquiring and preparing a trailer for your future tiny house can be stressful and costly but it’s one of the most important parts of your tiny house if you’re building mobile because it’s your foundation.

For most people, the trailer is actually the single most expensive item that you’ll buy for your tiny home. And rightly so, as it’s going to be the foundation, right?

To address this problem and to make things easier for people like us who want to build tiny cabins that are mobile Tumbleweed Houses is now offering trailers specifically designed and built for stick-built tiny houses (on wheels).

Four Trailer Sizes with Several Design Options

There are four sizes you can pick from and two trailer options right now which are:

  • 18′ utility trailer (~$4,200)
  • 20′ utility trailer (~$4,500) deck over trailer (~$6,100)
  • 24′ utility trailer (~$5,800) deck over trailer (~$6,600)
  • 26′ utility trailer (~$6,100) deck over trailer (~$6,900)

You can have your trailer delivered straight to you if you’re in the United States for an additional $500-$1500 depending on where you live. Or you can pick it up for free at one of four locations in the U.S. (listed below).
