This is the story of Michael and Nicolette, the UC Berkeley College couple who built a 300-square-foot tiny house on wheels and are now living in it.

It took them 7 months, $27,000, lots of YouTube tutorials and several books before Nicolette and Michael finished it. With very little (hardly any) construction experience they still built their own home and escaped high rent. Now, Michael can finish his undergraduate studies at UC Berkeley University with fewer worries about money. And then it’s off to law school… And guess what? They can take their house with them!

This is the Tucson 28-foot lightweight gooseneck tiny house on wheels by Rocky Mountain Tiny Houses. It features a solar system, an elevator bed that stores into the ceiling or drops over the couch for sleep time, a full kitchen, lots of book storage, indoor storage for three bicycles, and more.

The tiny house was custom-built for a client that hired Greg Parham and the team at RMTH. The goal was to design/build a self-contained tiny home that would be light enough to tow with a 1/2 ton Dodge Ram 1500 Ecodiesel since that’s what he happened to own and he would be using that to travel back and forth from upstate New York to Arizona.

This is a guest article by Shaylynn Bates – “How she got her tiny house and ways you can too”

With all the articles out there about downsizing and living small, I’m sure the title of this article is very misleading. I’m not writing yet another article warning about the difficulties of living in a small space and how it’s overrated, and not all it’s cracked up to be; I have lived in a 10 ft. X 10 ft. space, 600 sq. ft. with another person, and the sleeper cab of an 18 wheeler (I am a proponent of living small). One needs to have a small space in order to live in a small space. After getting my tiny house I received several requests asking for information on how I successfully got into tiny house owning. All the information out there is either (at the time of this writing) 6 years old or very vague and general. A brief overview of tiny houses will be necessary as the rest of this article will discuss financing your little dream and where to put it. “Disclaimer this information is one person’s experience in the state of Oregon, your state and your experience may be different”

First – here’s Shaylynn’s beautiful tiny home…?

This is the story of a very unique tiny house in Australia with a pop-up roof loft. The family of three designed and built it themselves and one of the unique things about it is that the loft roof is able to expand upward once the home is parked.

So whenever they want to move the house, they can collapse the roof down so that the house meets the applicable road laws. Pretty smart, right? They even did it in a way that it truly looks permanent once it’s set up! Pretty amazing, don’t you think?
