Megan and Lee were moving from California back to the Midwest, considering buying some land and buying a house when they realized they weren’t ready to settle down yet. So they decided to build out a Ford Transit and create their own home on wheels for a while instead.

Lee had family connections to a mill in Pennsylvania and picked out all the lumber in the van from a couple of trees, which they planed and treated and became the inside of their rig. The result is a unique rustic feel that’s perfect for this couple.

A tiny house, a vintage trailer, a toy hauler and now, a Ford Transit van — those are all the things Nailgun Nelly (Janelle) has overhauled since 2020! Janelle and her husband, Chad, are both nurses with fairly flexible schedules, so when they aren’t working, they’re renovating or traveling in their awesome creations.

The couple has two young sons who sleep on the pull-out couch bed (that’s also where their car seats attach in transit). Janelle chose a fixed queen-sized bed for her and Chad, and they have a swivel seat, a micro kitchen, and quite the spacious shower/toilet area for a van. Could you do #vanlife part-time?

The road to van life hasn’t been easy for this couple. It all started when Daphne outfitted a van for herself and left Matt in New York, so she could go travel. After he spent some time visiting her in the van, he wanted to join her full-time. But, Daphne’s van was totaled in a car crash right after Matt sold his house.

Both homeless, the couple decided to build out a second van and travel together. A professional musician, Daphne performs and teaches remote flute lessons. Matt does freelance drafting for roofing companies. They strayed from the norm in the van world and chose wallpaper rather than shiplap for their walls. Pretty awesome!

When Kels and Jay first went tiny, they converted a large bus into an awesome tiny house. Kels said that was largely for her — she couldn’t imagine downsizing any further into a van. But after two years of #buslife, she realized she didn’t need that much! So they sold the bus and converted a Ford Transit into an awesome van house.

Unlike many vans, theirs includes a wet bath and an oven! They created a cool “bed desk” with a gaming chair so they can edit all the videos they post on YouTube or that they take for Jenna of Tiny House Giant Journey. When they aren’t filming, they make money helping others convert their buses/vans into tiny homes. Let me know what you think in the comments!

This couple was living in London, paying high rent, and running the rat race. So they decided to save up their money and go experience the other cultures of Europe — and find minimalism in the process.

While they miss friends and family — and a proper bathroom — the experience has been fantastic for both Jess and Teddy. They converted a Ford Transit and made it home, complete with a portable toilet and outdoor shower.

We had the chance to ask them questions about their van life, which you can read at the end of the post. Plus, there’s a video tour so you can get all the details! Be sure to follow them on Instagram here.
