Mariajose, Chase, & their baby daughter Isla all live in this awesome sprinter van. Before they had a baby, the couple had lived nomadically for four years — first in a skoolie and then in a van. Some people thought they’d settle down after having a child, but instead they’re working on renovating the van to meet the needs of their expanding family.

In the video below, you can see their van pre-renovation. The neatest feature in their rig is the Murphy Bed, which is still pretty rare in vans on the whole. But they also have a bathroom (which they actually use) with real tile and a self-cleaning door. Let us know what you think!

Do you remember this family’s tiny house tour? We told you they also have a van and sailboat they travel in, and today you’ll be getting an insider look at their DIY van conversion (that was also totally debt-free!).

They did some super creative stuff with this conversion, including creating an elevator bed for the grown-ups that comes down at night and a living/eating/car-seat-holding area that turns into a giant kid bed. Let us know what your favorite part is below!

This adorable family started their nomadic lifestyle in a bus — but it was too big for them! Originally, the couple was looking for freedom, tired of working tirelessly to afford rent in LA. Then they traded the bus for a minivan and absolutely loved traveling and the lower cost of living.

With their daughter getting older, they upgraded to this 2006 Sprinter van which they converted beautifully into a functional space for the three of them (and their cat!). There’s an IKEA couch in the back which quickly converts into a family bed in the evenings. Oh, and a basketball hoop pops up from the roof when they are stationary — so cool!

While it might seem crazy to fit four people into 80 square feet, this family has loved their last 7 months on the road, realizing just how little they need to be happy and how awesome experiences are for their kids. Enjoy the tour below.

We’ve seen plenty of Skoolie families, or tiny house families, but a van family? They are few and far between! And this one didn’t just jump into tiny living a year or two ago — they’ve been doing it for seven whole years. They’ve proved any naysayers wrong, showing that a family of 4 with two school-aged kids can happily share a Sprinter as a home.

The kids’ even have their own room in what’s normally the “garage.” And yes, this home has a toilet and shower! We got to interview mom, Julia, and she said she can’t imagine being as close to her kids if they lived a “normal” life in suburbia. And because they’ve been parenting tiny since their oldest was one, she said she doesn’t know any other kind of life with kids!

Be sure to read our Q&A with her at the end of the post, and follow the family’s amazing van journey on Instagram.
