My name is Ethan, and my girlfriend Kelsey and I have been living in 100 square feet for about 6 months so far. Our journey to tiny house living started last October when I started looking around for a trailer to build my own house on.

By November I had found a great deal ($1500 for the trailer) on craigslist and got started on the project immediately. When December came around I had my shell built and over the next couple of months, I worked on the interior. It took me around 6 months total but that was mostly due to my work schedule and only having Tuesdays to build and the weather also rained me out a couple of weeks in February.

Aside from working on a custom tree house for a Boston-area client, Derek “Deek” Diedricksen of www.Relaxshacks.com has also been working on completing a ANOTHER BRAND NEW cabin for people to check out at his upcoming hands-on tiny house building and design workshop Nov. 15-17 in MA (you’ll see SEVEN cabins in all, including THE FIRST TUMBLEWEED).

He has also been wrapping up the details on his tiny house on wheels, “The Cub”, that workshop attendees will be seeing, AND on this little cabin in Vermont, that cost a mere $300 to make. There’s a vlog video on the cabin you can check out below, and here are a few as-of-yet released photos on the progress he’s been making in Vermont, where he’s mainly building with recycled materials….part of the focus of his upcoming gathering.

I think you’re going to love how this guy turned a 182 sq. ft. storage space into an awesome, fully livable 8-room micro apartment in Seattle.

That’s right. At first he was just looking for some storage space to keep some of his extra stuff. Once he took a better look, he immediately realized that the space had more potential than just for storage.

Since he used to design airplane interiors for Boeing, he decided to use his expertise to create a home that would fit into the 182-square-foot storage space.

Mr. Luker’s Tiny House project is a relatively new blog recording the building experience for new tiny house builder named Joe.

He really doesn’t share much about himself on his blog or on his attached Google+ profile, but just from reading through his blog you can tell that he is passionate and dedicated to the project.

He started the project in April 2013 by explaining his reasoning for building a tiny home. Like many of us he was attracted to the idea of reducing his finances and the positive environmental impact of a small home.

He explained in detail about his trailer choice and even asked for advice on the overall construction in some the earliest posts this year. You can also see his Sketch-Up designs for the building on the website.

My wife and I decided to build a small house as cheaply as we could as a weekend getaway. We had a relative who worked at a lumber supply house and would call us whenever they had seconds on sale. We purchased anything they had figuring we would need it eventually. We worked every weekend I had off and it took us a little over a year to finish. Here it is about four weekends into the project.

This tiny house is called the Tiny HaHa House. 

The owner built it for just $3,000 in materials and did nearly all of the work himself.

It’s Jay Shafer‘s XS tiny house design except it has a covered porch modification.

And they added two roof windows which I really like.

I think it has a little bit of a modern look to it too, don’t you think?

The XS is just 65-square-feet without including the upstairs sleeping loft.

The siding and roofing is corrugated aluminum, kinda like the one Jay showcases in his book.

Carpeting was used on the interior and the interior walls seem like painted plywood panels, but I think it looks good. Modern, even.
