In this post, I’m going to show you Jay Shafer’s component furniture plans which are made to design your own tiny house.

I think his goal here is to make it easy for us to customize tiny houses for our own needs.

At first, Jay would design little houses for himself figuring that he was pretty average. But it turns out that we’re all quite different…

Not just physically but we all prefer different things. Jay noticed that most people buying his plans would later customize them.

So now Jay’s component furnishings make it relatively easy for us to make our own floor plan within a tiny home. Let me show you how it works below.

Last week I showed you the McG tiny house plans.

Today I’m showing you yet another option from Humble Homes.

This one is for those of you who like the idea of a sleeping loft with a ladder.

The BRV2 Tiny House

I like the BRV2 because it makes great use of space and separates living and sleeping.

I also really like the french doors near the kitchen and living area. Did I mention this tiny house design has 10 windows?

I just got home from a week long South Western vacation. The entire week was topped off by a visit to Frank Lloyd Wright’s winter home, Taliesin West.

I started studying Frank Lloyd Wright in college. It was something that Matt and I had in common before we started dating a billion years ago. While we were still both at school we would often travel to Frank Lloyd Wright buildings local to Kalamazoo, Michigan (there are quite a few, surprisingly). We’ve been all over the country to see his buildings: Wisconsin, Illinois, New York, Pennsylvania. Now I can add Arizona to my list.

His buildings had a greater impact on me than I had even realized. Click below to read more.

Could you imagine an entire tiny house just for meditating? This architect designed and built just that so that he could have a place to quietly get away.

He even included a fountain to mask unwanted sounds so that he could use the space as intended. As I was looking at it though I was wondering: you’d probably think about living in here wouldn’t you?

Well… So did I. The two big windows face east and west so that there’s always sunlight coming through the structure.

Leave it to us to figure out where to put what in this tiny space since it wasn’t designed to live in.

I think you could create two separate sleeping platforms in the lofts by the two large windows. This could create two semi-private areas for sleeping. But if it’s just you the other can be left alone or used as storage.

Then downstairs you can create your living space along with a mini kitchen and bathroom.

Do you think it could work? How would you design it for yourself?

Northwestern Tiny House Project’s mission is to build this sustainable home by making their own improvements onto Tumbleweed Tiny Houses’ efficient use of space with new ideas and innovations in the areas of materials, electricity, and plumbing.

They call themselves Team CASITA. This particular home is just 128 square feet and yes: they’re using a trailer as a foundation.

The design includes:

  • Electrical and plumbing systems
  • Solar panels with battery bank
  • Water tank placement
  • Rainwater collection system

The home is planned to be finished this school year and the students have put together an excellent eBook (report) that you can download which details everything, including materials, layout, plumbing, composting, electricity, resources, and more.

Here’s a really nice shipping container house tour.

It’s a shipping container design that comes ready made from the manufacturer (from Europe) with windows, a bedroom, kitchen, air conditioning, and more.

One drawback that some will like and others won’t is that it’s brand new. It has never been used for shipping so it is not a recycled container.

This makes it cost more but you avoid having to do a conversion yourself and everything comes ready made and seems to be of high quality.

It’s a nice design and can be used here for inspiration and ideas on your own recycled container project.

This particular product in the video is designed to be used in Australia. Enjoy the tour…
