There are tons of reason to go tiny: To reduce your footprint, to have location-independence, to simplify your life. But many people choose to go tiny for one very important reason: Saving money. Tiny living, especially if you have the skills to build your home yourself, can save you thousands of dollars!
So we at Tiny House Talk wanted to appreciate some of the amazing, yet inexpensive builds we’ve seen this year (both DIY and from companies) in our 2016’s Best THOWS Under $30K list.
Shortly after moving to New Zealand together from the United States, Cori and Patrick decided they would build their own tiny home on a trailer using mostly recycled materials. When you go inside, you’ll find a kitchen with pull-out dining table, storage lofts, living area with a pull-out bed, and a bathroom. When you watch the full video tour below, you’ll get to learn how they used a handful of creative tricks to re-use materials in smart ways throughout their tiny home.
This couple works on movie sets, where Chloe serves as a stylist and Brandon as a carpenter. Typically the couple moves around a lot to take new jobs. So designing and building a portable tiny house on wheels made perfect sense for them.
Brandon said, “We could expand our job search to anywhere in North America, and we would never leave home again.”
Once they knew they would be building a tiny house they began collecting unwanted scraps from movie sets. And nine months and $10,000 later they built their amazing tiny home. Please enjoy, learn more, and re-share below. Thank you!
