Bette Presley, of Arroyo Grande, was already living relatively small before she decided to go tiny.

She downsized from her Grandmothers’ Club mobile home park into her own Tumbleweed Tiny House of just 166 square feet.

Part of the goal, she says, is to save her five adult children from having to go through all of her belongings when she passes.

Even better, she hopes she can completely avoid having to go into a nursing home and instead, just stay in her beautiful Tumbleweed cabin.

For me, tiny homes come in all shapes and sizes.

And for me to be able to call a house tiny doesn’t require it to be a particular square footage.

If you’re with me, high five!

And depending who I’m talking to, I may call it a tiny house or I may call it a small house.

All I really look for is that it’s relatively small, makes good use of space, and is designed in a somewhat unique fashion.

In other words… No wasted space, no cookie cutter design, and as much common sense as possible.

That’s why I’m excited to share this former chapel that was saved from destruction and rehabbed into a beautiful humble home.

Last month I told you about a business man who built a community of tiny houses for the homeless in Texas.

Ever since then I’ve been noticing more projects and non-profits who are on a similar mission.

This story begins with a group of homeless people protesting in a parking lot in the city of Olympia.

They did so by camping out in the parking lot in 2007 when, later, police forced them out.

After this, local churches started offering space for the people to camp in since they had nowhere else to go.

Today- several years later- it is a self-governed village of 30 permanent tiny cabins for the group to live in.

In this post you’re going to learn how to design and build your own version of a tiny house to scale.

This is a great way to play around with different ideas you might have before you actually start spending lots of money building your home.

It allows you to work out kinks and try out different concepts after you’ve gathered ideas for your future tiny house before you ever buy any of your materials.

And one of our readers, Dan Paquette, is going to show you exactly how to do it step by step in the video below.

Wanted to show you this 252 sq. ft. tiny house in MA.

Deek of RelaxShacks.com gives you the tour with his brother, Dustin, of the Bodega house designed by Tumbleweed.

Chris Haynes, the owner/builder, tweaked the plans just a bit to meet his own needs as well as to meet the local building codes in his county.

He even has a 140W solar system set up which he’s soon going to expand.

There’s also a really nice small built-in porch that Chris screened in which makes for an awesome hang out.

If you haven’t seen the 200 sq. ft. Zen in Law tiny house yet I think you’ll be glad you did today.

It’s a 10′ x 20′ studio was designed and built for a local author near downtown Boise, Idaho.

He wanted to have space for writing, doing workshops and hosting the occasional guest.

But if it were mine I’d like to live in it full-time because it’s AWESOME…

You’d just have to be willing to use the kind of scary ladder to the loft.

But besides that, I think you’ll agree that it could make a great full-time tiny house.

It was designed by Gravitas LC and is actually available as a vacation rental on AirBNB by the owners.

One thing that’s different about it is that it has a murphy bed in the loft.
