Right now I’m showing you how this man, Dipa Vasudeva Das, turned a high-top cargo van into a beautiful tiny cabin on wheels. He calls it his EarthShip.

It’s a DIY motorhome project that in my opinion has an Asian and Yogic style to it. I think it’s very well done so I wanted to share it with you for inspiration.

I was also able to get in touch with Dipa and pretty soon he’ll be putting together a website about his DIY camper projects. Yes, he’s converted more than one. Please enjoy and re-share below.

He turned this ordinary work van into an incredible zen motorhome that’s completely custom…

In this video interview you’ll get to meet a family of three (husband, wife, and daughter) who have downsized to a 117 sq. ft. tiny home on wheels.

They built it the house from scratch by hand in the mornings while later working nights. It took only 3 months to have it move in ready.

They went from paying $400 a month in utilities with their big house to paying only about $20 a month today in their tiny house. Now the family lives simply with no television.

And for them the decision to go tiny wasn’t just about money. It’s about living a better life for everybody. The house cost about $6-$8k to build thanks to being able to use recycled materials.

They spent an extra $12,000 to put up solar panels to power the house without having to completely rely on the grid. Please enjoy the video tour below.

With a new season of Tiny House Nation (season 2) just out I wanted to share these top 5 tiny houses that you might live in thanks to the FYI Network. Tiny House Nation helps families downsize their lives while they help design and build a new home for them of 500 sq. ft. or less. The show also explores various inspiring tiny homes from around the nation.

In addition, there’s a whole new TV show on the FYI Network called Tiny House Hunting. In this series realtors pair up with tiny house hunters from around the country to find the perfect tiny homes of 300 sq. ft. or less for their family. Very exciting times for the tiny house movement. Now that the nation is opening up to the idea of small spaces, maybe we’ll all see even more opportunities to live small and affordably.

For now, enjoy these top five tiny houses that maybe you might live in that were recently featured on Tiny House Nation and Tiny House Hunting on the FYI Network. Please enjoy, watch the official TV show trailers, and help us spread the word below.

This tiny sauna cabin is a guest post by Sam Pellisier

Hi Alex (and Tiny House Newsletter subscribers), I thought you may appreciate the tiny sauna cabin we designed and built here in Cape Town, South Africa.

Obviously, this concept can easily be enlarged slightly to make for a cute hobbit-like home. The whole structure and decks were constructed with hardwood Eucalyptus, milled from trees cut in the area, cured and machined.

The roof shingles are from the same wood. Shower made from flat bottom canoe, cut in half from the Okavango delta in Botswana. All in all with electricity, plumbing etc., the project cost lees than $6000. A fun project, from start to finish – and a happy client! The most rewarding – from tree to structure. Please enjoy and re-share below.

This $2k tiny home story (part 2) is a guest post by Winston W. Johnson

Here’s four more pictures of the progress on my $2k off grid tiny shelter. You can see the new heat shields and cathedral ceiling box that I built and painted with high temp black paint in the photos below.

You can also see my ‘shower’ setup, I purchased one of those old-fashioned galvanized round tubs and use it as my shower base. I installed eye hooks on the ceiling and hang a shower curtain from them. When I’m ready to take my shower I bring the tub in from outside, set it on the floor under where I’ve installed the eye hooks, hang the shower curtain and I’m good to go. When I’m done with my shower I empty the water in the tub, let the shower curtains dry over night, fold them up and take the tub back outside. It only takes a few minutes setting the shower up and/or taking it down so it’s no big deal. I use one of those pump up garden sprayers for the pressurized water to take my shower.

You can also see my newly completed front door, it’s one of those double Dutch barn door types, the picture shows the top door open. And there’s another photo of my new door with both top and bottom doors closed. Quite a lot of work went into making my new front door. Each door, top and bottom, had 18 pieces of wood that I had to cut, glue and screw in order to complete the build.

After the first of the new year I plan on adding a 4ft x 8ft deck on the front of my tiny shelter. I’ll probably install the new wood floating floor next. If you missed my original article you can click here to check it out. Please enjoy the updates and re-share below. Thank you.
