Randy Farnsworth is sharing his 8×12 tiny house design with us as part of our 2015 8×12 tiny house design contest. I’ll let Randy explain his design with you.
Please find attached my submission for the 8×12 tiny house contest. I have designed a tiny home based on the time honored salt box but with a 90 degree twist giving it somewhat of a chalet feel.
There is a 3/4 wet bathroom with a lavatory (a must with my wife as she finds toothbrushing where meals are prepared verboten). An alternating step ladder stair to the loft would make any midnight trip to the facilities easier and safer.
In the loft built in cabinetry that complements the angles of the roof hold clothing and bedding with adjustable shelving and dividers. Headroom in the loft is approximately 6′-2″ to the peak. Headroom in the kitchen and bath is 7′-0″ and the framing space shown allows for 4×4 with 3/4″ decking.
The large roof plane will allow for an ample solar array for off grid siting or the use of skylights as shown would allow for ample daylighting. A large deck expands living space and allows for entertaining.
I’ve been reading about tiny houses when a search would mainly turn up the results “Jay Shafer” and “teardrop trailers”.

I had to show you this tiny and luxurious backyard office that’s for sale by Gary Wagoner who shared his 8×12 ROOST tiny house design with us recently.
He’s selling this backyard office to raise money to buy a trailer to build out his latest ROOST design. With an asking price of only $1,700 I think this is a great deal if you’re in the Kettering, Ohio area.
It can easily be used as a tiny guest cabin, hobby room, music room, man cave, a tiny writing cabin, or we can just keep calling it an office. 😀

Presenting the Roost!
Inspired by both English Tudor stucco and exposed beams combined with Craftsman touches of clean lines, exposed rafter tips, and lap siding, this is one quality house.

Denise Eissler is sharing her 8×12 tiny house design with us as part of our 2015 8×12 tiny house design contest.
I’m excited about submitting my 8×12 tiny house on wheels for your contest. This is a custom designed TH that my builder, Rocky Mountain Tiny Houses, envisioned (with a lot of specific input from me, and in keeping with the design aesthetics of my front home and yard). He’s one of the few TH builders who’s enthusiastic about creating custom builds of all sizes, and in fact this was the smallest one he’s ever created. This TH was born from the idea of offering it as a backyard vacation rental in the highly sought after downtown area of Austin, TX. It was designed, built, delivered, and furnished in approx. 8 weeks, and after hitting the vacation rental market in Oct 2014 has already hosted over 60 separate sets of travelers – some individuals, some couples, some choosing it for a unique option to a hotel room, and some visiting specifically for the purpose of trying out tiny living before making the decision to build their own or have someone build a TH for them.

If you love camping and getting back into nature whenever possible, this DIY micro camper might be the project you’ve been looking for.
And you can build it for only $700! It functions a lot like a teardrop camper since it’s a micro travel trailer that you can build on a small utility trailer.
Since it’s relatively lightweight you can even tow it with a car! And all of your camping gear can be stored inside when you’re not using it. This makes it really easy because you can just pretty much tow and go. And once you get to your campsite, set up is pretty easy. A lot easier than setting up a tent, right? And for novice builders, this is a great project to start on before building a tiny house on wheels, don’t you think?

This is Jackie Ruth’s original tiny house on wheels…
Originally, this was posted to help her sell her amazing little cabin on wheels. But it has since sold. It was such a great deal!
Years later, it’s on the market again. You can learn about that right here.
Right now I’m showing you an amazing deal of a tiny house for sale in the Ozarks of South Central Missouri. It’s my friend Jackie’s tiny home that she’s had for many years.
She used to live in it in the Florida Keys. It has since then been moved to the Ozarks. And now that Jackie has her own slightly larger cabin, and her son no longer uses it, she’s selling it.
And in my opinion, this might be one of the best tiny house deals I’ve ever seen. It’s truly an ‘unknown’ classic tiny house that has been around before the tiny house movement ever really took off.
It must be moved so you’ll want to bring your own flatbed and plenty of jacks to go pick it up. It was once on a trailer before, but it now sits on blocks.

Anastasia is sharing her 8×12 tiny house design with slide outs as part of our 2015 8×12 tiny house design contest.
This is a house designed for a retired couple and a cat. (Cat is optional, but come on!) It therefore does not include a second floor or a loft and is wheelchair accessible throughout.
The roof will be peaked from east to west and angled at around 35 degrees, depending on house’s longitude, to catch the sun rays to best advantage. The roofing will be solar tiles for the posh version, regular shingles with solar panels for rustic effect.

Charles Strong is sharing his 8×12 tiny house design as part of our 2015 8×12 tiny house design contest.
“I have been in the construction trade for longer than I care to think about, first as a worker bee, then got into the design end of things. I am a free lance draftsman and do mostly detailing for steel fabricators on large commercial projects, with occasional ventures in architectural design. Became interested in the tiny house concept a couple years ago when considering some options for my son’s property and my own future retirement and began experimenting with various plan concepts, even gave them a name- D’weelings Designs. I found your newsletter site while doing research and have been enjoying it ever since. The contest motivated me to finish up some ideas for submittal and here’s the results. Thanks for the push and opportunity to contribute.”
