Rachel doesn’t quite remember what inspired her to pursue #vanlife, but at some point in college she started saying she wanted to live in a van, and then she was committed to seeing the idea through.
She says van living has provided the “spice” she needed in her life. For the past year she’s been all over the U.S. exploring. While eventually she’d like to put down roots and have her own pottery studio, she manages to sell some of her work as she travels!

Just wait to meet one of the sweetest tiny house couples Tiny Home Tours has interviewed. Janae and Blaine designed and built their amazing THOW and have been living it since they got married back in 2019. It’s entirely off-grid, as well, and they have three adorable kittens.
But they don’t just live tiny — they design and build tiny homes as well with their business, “Cornerstone Tiny Homes” in Oklahoma. Once you see their THOW, you’ll want one designed by them for sure. This one has a elevator bed, tons of storage, a stacked washer and dryer, and more counter space than many apartments.

This is definitely pushing the boundaries of what belongs on “Tiny” House Talk, but this alternative dome home — or should I say, “mansion” — is worth looking at despite it’s monstrous size!
It’s created from 10 domes connected in a circle, that were built back in the 70s using balloons, rebar and foam. Pretty neat!
Jenna’s (Tiny House Giant Journey) video below interviews both the builder and current owners about the epic structure, which is now part-home, part-Airbnb.

This is the 24-ft—Aspen tiny house on wheels from SimBLISSity by Dot and Byron Fears.
The design features 290 sq. ft. of space, ample for one or two people. There is 192 sq. ft. on the main level, an 83 sq. ft. bedroom loft, a 35-sq.-ft. Storage loft, and 16-sq.-ft. Of external shed space. You can see some examples of the build below, and of course, one can customize it to the heart’s content.

Sheridan started his career as an electrician, and still considers himself an “electrical nerd.” But after years of that profession, he jumped ship and turned to photography and travel writing. He had been traveling the world for a couple of years when COVID stopped him in his tracks and forced him to re-evaluate things.
Eventually, he settled on van life and used his electrical skills to create an amazing 4-season electrical set-up. His van includes a shower and toilet, as well as a nice kitchen and a walled-off cab. It’s still a work-in-progress, but it looks pretty amazing!

Wabi-sabi is the Japanese aesthetic that finds beauty in imperfection and natural materials, and this Washington build takes the name seriously — the custom woodwork throughout is the whole point of the house.
The systems are set up for genuine independence: an efficient mini-split for heating and cooling, a backup propane heater for when the power goes out, and an ERV for air circulation — the last being a detail most builds skip and then regret in a tightly sealed small space.
Editor’s note: this home was listed at $80,000 in Everson, Washington in 2021 and has sold. Here is how it was described at the time:
The Wabi-sabi tiny house was built in 2018 in Terrebonne and Portland, Oregon. The shell was built with the help of professional builders at @harmonwickedwoodworking. The owner then finished the interior with lots of hand-crafted love. The design employs a multi-level design, with the main room raised by 22″. This creates drop-downs into the the bathroom and kitchen, with the two lofts creating a third level. The tiny tea nook looking out a large window below the secondary loft adds even another level. Combined with the hardwood French Doors, dropped axles for 4 extra inches of height, an abundance of windows, the levels make the house feel spacious. An added bonus is that there is a huge space under the main floor for storage.
