Nestled within nature in Northern Arizona is this sustainable tiny home made of Earth owned and built by Cody Lundin.
You may recognize him from various television interviews and magazines. As a professional survivalist for over 25 years, Cody built his own self-reliant earth house which, by the way, is completely off the grid.
One of the main goals, when Cody was designing and building his tiny home was to ensure the interior temperature remains habitable at all times, no matter how hot or cold it may be outside. So the stone floors absorb the natural sunlight throughout the day to help keep the home warm at night. This is especially important during the winter. This 160 sq. ft. shipping container tiny house is built by Rhino Cubed.
“Rhino Cubed is a Colorado based company building artistic tiny homes from shipping containers. A shipping container is a perfect building envelope: structurally sound, water tight, and quasi-portable. Creative artistry and design turn them into unique living structures.” – Rhino Cubed.
They call this model the ‘Nola‘, named after one of the few remaining white rhinos in the world, located in the San Diego Zoo. The tiny home is currently for sale and listed at $63,999 USD.
The colorful artistic shipping container house is equipped with a kitchen and bathroom with full size shower. I love the ocean wave design on the outside of the home.

I’d like you to meet Julie and Andrew, a young couple who transformed an old school bus into their very own mortgage-free cottage on wheels.
Since the both of them love to travel and did not want a home with a 30-year mortgage they decided to go tiny. So for only $10,000 they bought this partially-converted school bus and did the rest of the work to turn it into home.

This couple works on movie sets, where Chloe serves as a stylist and Brandon as a carpenter. Typically the couple moves around a lot to take new jobs. So designing and building a portable tiny house on wheels made perfect sense for them.
Brandon said, “We could expand our job search to anywhere in North America, and we would never leave home again.”

This is an eco friendly prefab timber frame house kit by Noble Homes. They sell efficient kit homes with customizable floor plans.
All the materials are easy to handle, including the lightweight SIP‘s for the walls and roof. Everything you need for the exterior of the home is contained in the kit which makes it easier to build.
Although this house is not as tiny as it looks it still has a relatively small footprint but it does boast about 1280 sq. ft. of space on single level floor plan with three bedrooms so it’s great for a family! I really like the open kitchen and living area with its large glass windows. The exposed timber beams in the living area plus the windows give the home a warm cozy feel to it too, don’t you think? This is a 1979 GMC Blue Bird school bus that doubles as a vintage store and road-tripping DIY motorhome for British Columbia couple, Marco Khalil and Caroline West.
Inside what seems to be an ordinary looking school bus there are vintage accents that the couple have picked up along the way throughout their adventures. Inside the bus you’ll find a bed, cabinets for storage and a sitting area to make it a comfortable place to relax and rest after a long day on the road. Notice the custom curtains that flip up to the ceiling when not in use. What a great yet simple idea, right?
The couple removed all the seats from the bus and the full renovation only took them ten days to complete! And of course there is a name for the bus. It’s Riley. Marco and Caroline use Riley as a backyard cabin on their property when they are not on the road searching for more vintage treasures and fun experiences. When not traveling I spend a part of each year helping to caretake our family property in Maine. It has been in our family for three generations and is a very special place.
I believe this Little Cottage would be a perfect example of a tiny house vacation. It’s one of only three cottages on our family’s property overlooking Blue Hill Bay and it’s just minutes from Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor in Maine.
This cozy cottage is great for a couple or single person seeking a quiet getaway while enjoying all the benefits the area has to offer. It offers 330 square feet of space inside and has one bedroom with a queen-sized bed. It also offers a fully equipped kitchen, private bath with walk-in shower, cable TV, wi-fi, an outdoor gas grill, picnic table, all linens, and more.
Our oceanfront ledges are the perfect place to relax and enjoy a picnic, a glass of wine, and/or your morning coffee. We’ve welcomed many people celebrating honeymoons and anniversaries and we’ve even hosted a few oceanside weddings.

This is a converted school bus that Sarah Szymczak, her husband Ed, and their four kids live in.
