Millenials’ DIY Debt-Free Tiny Home

In 2018, Nicole and Jamie began building their DIY tiny house to own a home in the high-cost-of-living state of Massachusetts. It took them about 2 years and $30,000 to complete the build, and they have been loving living there ever since.

The home features shou sugi ban siding and an adorable arched doorway that steps down into the house. Inside, there is a cozy living space and an incredible pull-out staircase up to their bedroom. The entire loft bedroom is actually an inset mattress, so they crawl right into bed. What do you think of this design?

Tree-Branch-Filled Van Conversion 7

This van conversion by Recycle Inn features a sculptural tree branch element that serves as a natural railing between the bed and seating area. The build uses reclaimed wood throughout, with 45-degree angle cuts creating visual interest across the ceiling and cabinetry. The layout places the kitchen against the cab wall with a fixed sleeping area at the rear, similar to their mosaic tile van.

A double-decker coach bus turned into a full-time home for a family of 8—now that’s something you don’t see every day. This dad was tired of missing out on his kids’ childhoods chasing money to pay for the “good life.” After a family vacation to Utah, he and his wife decided to take his software work remotely and find a way to travel full-time.

So they bought a double-decker coach bus and with the help of a professional company turned it into an incredible home complete with 6 bunk beds, a convertible bed/bedroom for mom and dad, two bathrooms, one shower, a homeschool space, and even a rooftop deck. The two-story layout provides enough room for their large family to live, learn, and travel together.
