If you weren’t one of the 40,000 people who made it to the 2015 Tiny House Jamboree sponsored/hosted/organized by Eco Cabins ( in Colorado Springs, Colorado this post will give you a recap of what you missed!
Can you believe it? Thousands of tiny house people from all over the world got together in one place over the course of a weekend? People from all 50 states and 10 different countries too!
This event proved that LOTS of people want and need more affordable housing options. More alternative housing projects, developments and communities that are smaller, smarter, and more affordable, right? And the good news is that we’re making progress aren’t we?

I particularly liked that they limited it to true tiny houses of max 200sqft.
I don’t subscribe to 500sqft being a tiny house
Mine’s 136sq ft and that is plenty big enough for Tiny !
Loved the show, and Simblissity and the EcoCabins Morrison Home were the winners for me. They are both Colorado builders, and if I can sell my 640 sq ft cabin in Woodland Park, I’ll have one of them on my property in Florissant!
I went there with checkbook in hand, ready to buy a TH, but ended up being disappointed with the prices. $55k (and up!) for 200 sq ft equals $275/ft, high even by the current Denver housing market standards. So I bought one last week from Canada (Hummingbird Micro Homes) and it is just what I was looking for – 3 windows in the loft, stairs with storage, bamboo and maple cabinets, and with the exchange rate, the price was right at $29k (great time to buy Canadian!). Maybe next year the Jamboree can attract more variety in prices. Cheers!
so will there be a tariff when it comes across the border into the USA?
No, because of NAFTA. I had a customs broker do all the paperwork ($350), and it was $2300 for the transport to Denver (I don’t have a truck to haul, but Enterprise is pretty affordable and I almost went that route but my hauling/towing skills leave much to be desired….) The driver said he was constantly surrounded by people taking pics of it in the motel parking lot, gas stations, rest areas, etc.
Hi Holly-I just went to their website and they have some really attractive homes. I especially love their exteriors which are colorful and interesting. It looks like quallity work all around. I hope you are happy with yours. It would be great to see some photos!
