Tiny House Couple Living Mortgage-free and Car-free

How would your life be with no mortgage, no car, and a teeny tiny house to call home? When I first heard about Tammy Strobel and her husband Logan they were living simply in a minimalist apartment. Today they are living in their own mortgage-free tiny house on wheels designed and built by PAD Tiny Houses.

But why? Around six years ago Tammy was dissatisfied with her life because she was commuting for two hours every day just to go to a job that she didn’t even like. They were $30k in debt, owned two cars, and were living in a two-bedroom apartment. So Logan suggested they downsize.

What got Tammy & Logan to Start Downsizing

It wasn’t until Tammy watched a YouTube video of Dee Williams and her mortgage-free life in a tiny home that she decided to open up to the idea of downsizing with the intention of improving her life.

And that’s when it all started. But it was a slow and gradual process. After all, it takes a while to get rid of your stuff once you’ve been accumulating for several years.

Baby Steps Towards Going Tiny

So they sold one car and moved into a one-bedroom apartment after getting rid of lots of their stuff. Then they went into an even smaller 400 square foot apartment.

Today they’re completely car-free and living in a 128 square foot home on wheels designed and built by Dee Williams’ company PAD Tiny Houses.

Positive Side Effects from Downsizing

Best of all, throughout the entire process, the couple lost weight, got healthier, gained more energy, reduced debt, stress, and became happier. Not to mention, they gained a whole lot of freedom.

More Freedom, Better Choices?

No longer tied to their jobs, they started pursuing their dreams, passions, and interest more seriously. Tammy is now a full-time blogger, photographer, and teacher.

Dream Career Realized

She published the book You Can Buy Happiness (and It’s Cheap), regularly blogs at RowdyKittens, and teaches e-courses on how to become a photographer.

While i would not be comfortable living in such a tiny house, i think the article does mention a very good point – reducing ones debt load and downsizing. It really reduces a lot of stress – and you learn to save – which is the only sure way of retiring rich.
