Bob is an incredible sculptor with an artist’s eye for turning trash into treasure, and that’s what happened when he came across a £1 grain silo for sale on eBay one afternoon. Since he works with scrap metal already, an entire silo’s worth of it seemed like a gold mine. What he didn’t expect at the time was that he’d turn it into a fully functional tiny house and live in it with Carol Ann for 5 and a half years!

What’s remarkable about the silo is not just that it’s a DIY home, but that most of the interior — including the furniture — was also crafted out of reclaimed materials. The couch is welded from chains and the back seat of a VW beetle! A washing machine door window is the porthole in the bathroom. Old piping became the ladder to the bedroom loft. This tour is just so fascinating, so don’t miss out on the video below.

This is a grain bin (a.k.a. silo) turned into a lovely little cabin on a farm in Georgia. The quaint little room includes both a queen-sized bed and a bathroom space, with the shower stall separate from the toilet room. There’s also a small table for two (although only a microwave in terms of cooking equipment).

Outside, there’s a grill you can use, as well as seating around a fire pit. You can tour the grounds and visit the farm animals. What do you think of this renovated silo?

Repurposing things is such an important part of sustainability, and grain silos offer the perfect shell for creating a really unique space. These ranchers took this one and made it into a super bright and airy farmhouse stay in Hahira, Georgia.

There’s a living room with leather and cowhide seating, and a full kitchen you can enjoy. Head up the spiral staircase to the loft bedroom with a beautiful canopy bed. There’s a full bathroom on the first floor and an outdoor clawfoot tub where you can soak.
