It’s a backyard tiny home that was hand built by the homeowners (and their friends) on the property.
Best of all- they used mostly reclaimed and recycled materials to build and furnish the cabin. This not only keeps construction costs low, but it’s obviously amazing for the environment.
When you walk inside you’ll immediately notice the living room, kitchen, and ladder that takes you to the upstairs sleeping loft bedroom with a queen bed. And yes there’s a bathroom downstairs too.

This 200 sq. ft. modern and rustic tiny house on wheels by Tiny House Northwest is for sale in Portland, Oregon.
It was built using as many reclaimed materials as possible along with low VOC finishes inside to keep it safe to be in.
The flooring is securely bolted to the trailer which you can learn how to do yourself with these videos.
The slanted roof keeps is spacious and simple in the upstairs sleeping loft so there’s no need for dormers which increase the chances for leaks later on because of the extra cuts and corners.
The exterior sheathing is secured by being screwed and glued to the framing.

I know we’ve been posting a lot about the Tiny House Hotel lately.
But Faircompanies has released interviews and video tours of the tiny houses on the property.
I’m so inspired how someone found a way to turn what used to be a repossessed car lot into a Tiny House Hotel called The Caravan.

This is the Miter Box Tiny House on Wheels. It’s designed by Shelter Wise LLC in Portland. And for a while, back in 2013, it was part of the Tiny House Hotel in Portland, Oregon.
You can still buy the tiny house plans from PAD Tiny Houses (they’re currently selling for $79.00) and you can use those plans to build your own version of the Miter Box or you can hire a contractor to do it for you (using the plans).
This tiny house was completed in June 2013. Its nickname is “The Miter Box” because of the precision of the project. This 90 square foot house features a dining table that converts into a queen bed, much like in many RVs. In addition, it offers two other lofts. And the bathroom is a wet bath.

You have probably heard the news by now but in case you haven’t we wanted to share a little information about the new Tiny House Hotel that recently launched in Portland, Oregon.
Tiny house aficionados and entrepreneurs Deb Delman and Kol Peterson opened a three-room (or, rather, 3 house) tiny hotel in the Portland Arts district.
They worked with the city government to acquire the right permitting and spoke with the neighborhood businesses about their plans.
They contracted several tiny house designers and builders to create and lease the three current tiny houses with the hopes to expand.

My friend Lina from This Is the Little Life just sent me an email about the tiny house tour they just had in Portland, OR.
It attracted more than 100 people! It was in conjunction with the Pedalpalooza which is becoming quite a big deal in Portland.
For weeks there are different themes to celebrate the culture of bicycles in Portland.
You can see the many bicycles and a little house on wheels in the background in the photo below.

Hi everyone! I’m a 20 year old freelance writer living in Portland, OR. I was born in Venezuela where my family did volunteer work for seven years.
When I was one, we moved to Wisconsin. The farm we created is where I grew up: 20 acres of wild Wisconsin woods, an acre garden, a milk cow, a dog, some cats, a mule, a donkey, chickens, horses, and my mom, dad and sister. Both my sister and I were unschooled.
We ran our house on solar panels and a gas generator and had a latrine out back. We pumped water from our well with the power from our car batteries into the horse trough in our attic so that it could gravity feed to our kitchen and bathtub-room. In summer, we used a gas fridge; in winter, an outdoor fridge with a huge hole cut in the side to let the winter cold in.
We left when I was thirteen but Wisconsin still feels like home. I ended up in Portland at eighteen sharing a five bedroom house with six people. I now live in an uncomfortably spacious one bedroom apartment.
I work online, bike everywhere and love Portland, but I’ve got wanderlust in my blood. In the coming months, I’ll be buying a car, converting it into a portable home, and traveling the US until I feel like being still again. This is a dream I’ve had since I was 12 and, while I plan to keep a few boxes of art supplies and old journals in a friend’s basement, I’m excited to start drastically downsizing my possessions.
