This unique tiny portable studio was built as an additional bedroom but it can be used as an office, guest room, meditation nook, massage studio, vacation rental, or personal living space. It’s perfect for someone who wants privacy or their own inspirational space but doesn’t want the hassle of obtaining a permit to build. It was built by an incredibly gifted craftsman. Materials were carefully hand picked. We used it on our farm as our bedroom. It was nestled alongside the river during summer. We ran an extension cord from our barn for electricity. It was a wonderful relaxing retreat. Many people refer to our small space as a “sanctuary.” It’s a beauty.
This 8×16 handcrafted portable studio (120 square feet) sits sturdy on a double axle flatbed trailer made for us by Leonard. Non toxic products were selected and used for the inside from start to finish. We used all local wood. Poplar floors, handcrafted maple door with stain glass, non toxic insulation, american clay plaster walls (the plastered walls gives the studio a warm feeling), ceiling fan, cathedral ceilings, small loft for storage, passive solar energy efficient “Serious” Windows, wall electric heater, beautiful lighting features and excellent air flow with a window of each wall. Easy to hook up anywhere 110/120.

Established in 2008, before the recent surge in popularity of tiny houses, we like to say, “We were tiny when tiny wasn’t cool!” We are a community of folks who enjoy and share lake living and recreation such as fishing, boating, and water skiing but don’t want to pay a mint for it.
We have a unique ownership arrangement because we converted an old campground to land-condominiums. This allows each community member to not only own their own tiny cabin on their own waterfront lot but also to become part owner of the entire peninsula and share common expenses to keep costs down. By using park model RV tiny homes in our community, the result is an affordable, low-maintenance, lakefront tiny vacation home with its own dock. This is the story of a couple who decided instead of trying to find the home of their dreams, they would design and build the perfect cabin that would fit them like a glove! And that’s exactly what they did. At first, they considered going tiny, but they decided that it wouldn’t work out for them long-term. Very smart! “While we admire the people who live in tiny homes, we need a bit more room,” says the couple.
So they designed and built this perfect little 704-square-foot cabin on a foundation with a wonderful covered porch area. I just love it! Their goal was to cut their bills, become more energy efficient, and reduce cleaning and maintenance. Pretty smart, don’t you think?

She built her tiny house on wheels for about $10,000 in only 10 months and she did it without the help of a builder.
Her tiny home has a solar panel, rain gutters for water collection, and is built right onto an 8×16 trailer so she can legally tow it and move it if she wanted to. It has a 12V LED porch light on the covered front porch. When you go inside you’ll see she has a kitchen, bathroom, living area, closet, and upstairs sleeping loft. She built her tiny house on a 8×16 trailer. It has a custom built 2′ wide screen door she created with a decorative sun on it (see below). She also made her own door mat from a rope. And she even harvests her own spring water from a nearby spring whose water originates underground.
I’m excited about building up a list of up and coming as well as current tiny house communities and in this post I’m introducing you to the 333 acre Sacred Mountain Sanctuary Eco Village which is in Candler, North Carolina.
It’s near Asheville (about 25 minute drive away) and it is a new permaculture eco village that is still being developed. Right now it’s possible to arrange a visit, stay in a cabin, and learn about permaculture.
