The Geasey Family has lived in their budget bus conversion for five years after purchasing the bus six years ago for $7,000. Incredibly, they only put about $8,000 into making the bus home, bringing the total for their conversion up to just $15,000!
That thriftiness crafted a fantastic home on wheels, with a comfortable living room, spacious kitchen with tons of counter space, and cozy bedrooms for everyone in the family. While they built before recent inflation took over, their affordable conversion is still an inspiration!

Susan is a former dialysis social worker who wanted to retire but couldn’t afford to without selling her home. She hired Movable Roots to build a custom tiny house, downsized, and moved to Circle Pond, a Florida tiny house community. After two years, she hasn’t looked back.
She designed her home as a “forever home” with features customized to her needs. At 4’11”, she requested a shorter staircase so she could stand fully upright in her loft bedroom. The home includes a small front deck, a sleeper couch where she relaxes with her dog, and a kitchen with bold blue tile backsplash.

These house plans look perfect for a retirement cottage, a small family home, or a vacation property. At just 640 square feet, this is just above tiny yet still well within “small house” limits. The clever layout could easily sleep six people between the two twin bunk lofts and the two first-floor bedrooms.
One of the bedrooms is shown as an office but has the exact dimensions of the primary bedroom. There’s a single full bathroom and a second utility room the same size. Turn that into a powder room with a washer/dryer unit. The center of the home has an open-concept living/dining/kitchen space that looks out over a lovely porch. What do you think of this design?

Lucy lives in a small cottage on the edge of Tasmanian woodlands that she and her father brought back to life after nearly 30 years of disrepair. The shed-like structure had been Lucy’s first home, which her parents built as a temporary dwelling place while constructing their forever home.
She added three extra spaces during the build, which allows for a gorgeous first-floor bedroom that is well-lit by large, low windows and overlooks the magnificent countryside. But the part of the home that was original, Lucy has tried to keep as true to the past as possible, beautifully remembering her roots and appreciating those early years of her life!
