Donna and her husband will take over her parent’s farm someday, and in the interim, they’ve set up a lovely geodesic dome vacation home for guests to enjoy a romantic getaway. It allows them to bring in some extra income while Donna is at home with her young children (and going back to work wouldn’t cover daycare expenses).

The dome sits on the Mangora River in New Zealand, and has all the comforts of home — a King-sized bed, a wood-burning stove, a kitchen with a two-burner cooktop, and a bathroom with a shower. Take a tour of the space and hear from Donna about the construction of the cabin below!

Tiny cabins make excellent romantic getaways, and this one on Saint John River is no exception. Add in a sauna and two hammock swings under the porch, and you have the perfect getaway!

This unique design has a loft bedroom suspended above the main living area, with balconies on either end and two massive skylights that give you starry sky views at night. You can curl up on the plush black couch and look out on the trees, or walk down to the river and sit on the shore. A pellet stove will keep you toasty and comfortable on chilly winter nights.

This dome isn’t tiny, but it’s amazing! The three-bedroom, one-and-a-half-bath structure sits on 42 acres of private woodland in Kennebunkport, Maine, and looks like a true retreat from it all.  The structure is all solar-powered and offers a hammock forest, fire pit, and beautiful forest views.

Inside, the open-concept dome has a living room, dining area, and kitchen that flow together seamlessly. A staircase goes up to the “loft” bedroom, where two twin beds rest side-by-side near a reading nook. There are also two queen bedrooms, and a full bathroom with a two-person shower stall. Could you live there?

Sean and Kristi Hensley completed their amazing retirement tiny house in September 2022, and now they’re open for business helping others reach their tiny house dreams! Sean worked in construction his whole life, and after a few smaller-scale projects, including converting a cargo trailer for a cross-country trip, he and Kristi realized they were ready to downsize.

Coming in at 440 square feet, this home bursts with character, clever features, and luxury design elements. Wait until you see how cleverly they used the corner of the kitchen (no lazy susan!), the breathtaking bathroom, and all the brilliant storage solutions they incorporated into the design. Let us know in the comments what you liked best!
