The Freedom Microlite Caravan demonstrates that full-featured camping doesn’t require a heavy-duty tow vehicle. At just 9 feet long, 6 feet 1 inch wide, and approximately 1,400 pounds, this British-made pop-up caravan can be towed by compact cars and subcompacts—opening up travel trailer camping to drivers who assumed their vehicles couldn’t handle it.
Key Specifications

Why Ultra-Light Caravans Matter
The Freedom Microlite represents a category of travel trailers designed specifically for owners of fuel-efficient vehicles. Key advantages include:
- No truck required: Tow with a sedan, hatchback, or small SUV
- Better fuel economy: Light weight means less drag and fuel consumption
- Easier maneuvering: Compact dimensions simplify parking and reversing
- Lower costs: Smaller tow vehicle, less fuel, potentially lower insurance
- Indoor amenities: Unlike teardrop trailers, cooking and bathroom facilities are inside
The Freedom Microlite proves that caravan camping isn’t limited to those with large tow vehicles. For travelers who want more than a tent but less than a full-size RV, ultra-light pop-up caravans offer a compelling middle ground.

It is a way cool looking camper. It is more than my Smart Car could pull (I have seen ones that is light enough for a Smart to pull) but still way nice.

Here is another camper that is small. It has a photo of a Smart car pulling one. 🙂
I am amazed how small campers can get. 🙂 (some times a little too small 🙂 ).
The Freedom Microlite with the custom shower room is ours ! It took me 5 days work to make the “wetroom” but it functions really well. This is an interesting site. I too am interested in small living spaces. I am currently having a compact Nissan nv200 van converted to campervan.
