This is a 5′ x9′ Tiny Travel Trailer guest post by Kay Beam – share yours!

I built a 5′ x 9′ tiny travel trailer. I wanted something to camp in with hard sides so that I could bring my granddaughters with me. I made the walls 5′ high with a dropped floor so that I could stand up in it. At the dropped floor the inside height is 5’8″; I’m 5″6″, so there’s 2 inches to spare.

The floor and walls are made of ¾ inch plywood, and the roof has luan placed on spars. The walls and roof are skinned with aluminum. I ordered manufactured windows and a door.

It weighs just under 1,000 pounds, and tows very easily. It has an inside kitchen and a place to shower. There is a shower pan with a drain in the floor, and a shower curtain that hangs from the walls. The shower pan stores under the bed and I bring it out and place over the floor drain when I need to use it.

There are electrical and water hookups, and I’ll be installing a water heater. It took me about 180 hours to build and cost around $5,000.

I ordered a custom made trailer chassis and built on top of it. The trailer is very comfortable and convenient. I’m very happy with how it turned out. It was a fun project!

Below is a breakdown of the building costs. Please enjoy and re-share. Thank you!

Some of you might already be familiar with SignaTour Campers, a small company who builds teardrop trailers in Tampa, Florida, from last year when we featured them on Tiny House Talk.

Since then they have added to their fleet of micro RVs to choose from and in this post, you’ll get a brief overview of each.

The 4′ x 7′ Daytona is their smallest at 600 lbs which makes it easy to tow with any car and some motorcycles and trikes. There’s a torsion axle to help with handling.

The next size up is the Venice at 5′ x 8′ and weighs approximately 800 lbs and features a rear entry which is a bit unique in the teardrop camping world.

The Biscayne is 5′ x 8′ also with double side entry, rear cabinetry and a front cargo area. You’ll get lots of natural lighting in this one because of the double entry glass doors and the two windows.

The Rockledge has a 3500 lb suspension, front storage box, and a standard roof rack installed. This one is geared towards the outdoors man.

All of the campers have a natural birch interior, indoor and outdoor carpeted floors, aluminum wheels and fenders, storage, and a host of available options.

This is a miniature RV, a “mini travel trailer”, that I saw at the 2010 Fort Myers Florida RV Show.

It was priced at $6,495. It’s a lot and is said to weigh just 1,400 pounds so it’s towable with many vehicles. I’m pretty sure minivans will be able to tow it, which is great.

Easy to tow and it’s a step up from a teardrop trailer in terms of size since you can stand up inside and all of that.

Anyway, take a look see for yourself and let me know what you think in the comments, please!
