This is Chelle’s school bus conversion!

From the outside this looks like a standard yellow school bus you once spent hours on in elementary school, but take a step inside and you’ll forget all about the back-of-the-bus bullies!

Chelle described herself as a 55-year-old homemaker who was searching for a way to build an off-grid tiny house when this bus fell in her lap. She transformed it into a home with dark wood floors, fun dressers, a mini fridge, toaster oven, coffee maker, and an electric wood burning stove. Her bed sits in the back and she has curtains to section off her living areas and cover the bus’s many windows. It’s actually illegal to have a yellow bus in some states, so Chelle said she will repaint it soon so she can continue traveling!

Please enjoy, learn more, and re-share below. Thank you!

This is one man’s fantastic school bus-turned-DIY-motorhome.

From the outside, you can see vestiges of the house’s former life as a vehicle for transporting students, but the exterior of the bus has been painted burgundy. The body of the van has been enveloped in wood-siding to give a more “house-like” look and feel. The coolest part of this bus transformation? It runs off of vegetable oil!

When you go inside, you’ll find beautiful fir floors and an entirely wooded home. The roof has been cut off of the bus, allowing for a 2×4 construction house with a taller ceiling to be built in its place. The bus includes a wood stove and right next to the home’s heating source is a door that leads below the bus where he can load wood from the outside to fuel the fire. During the winter, he heats his house and water with an antique-looking oven, but during the summer, he has a smaller stove and oven that runs off propane. He has a typical RV water tank system, with grey water going into one tank and black water into the other. His stand-up shower has a beautiful pebble floor and a skylight for brightness. Watch the video below for more details!

Just wanted to let you know about this GMC school bus to motorhome (RV) conversion that’s for sale right now (UPDATE: SOLD) in the Albany, New York area. It’s listed on Craigslist right now and I found it thanks to one of our awesome readers, Comet. Thanks, Comet!

It’s a 2003 GMC Savanna 3500 with a 5.7L gas V8 and it has around 200,000 miles on it. The current owners converted it into an RV themselves. They owned and lived in it for two years so far and have put 3,000 miles on it, according to the listing. They even installed a receiver hitch on the rear of the bus to tow their SUV with it on their travels.

Inside you’ll find a basic kitchen area, sleeping area, and plenty of shelving to store your stuff. The listing says that they’re selling because they’d like something a little bigger. Asking price WAS $4,500.
