Husband Derrick has a construction job that forces him to move frequently. Wife Alexis said they used to rent homes or apartments, but never really felt like they had a “home.” But 3.5 years ago, they decided to buy an RV so they could bring their house with them no matter where they move to!

They have two young boys who enjoy their bunk room in the middle of the RV. Alexis says they didn’t do a full make-over on their RV but used paint and some new furniture to make it their own without spending a fortune. Speaking of fortune, their RV life saves them thousands per month.

We got to interview Alexis (@thetinywallsfamily on Instagram) below, so be sure to read all about their tiny life after the photo tour.

Family of Four’s RV life in Texas

Jordan and Scotty had a 2,200 square foot home on 10 acres of land, but were killing themselves trying to afford that lifestyle. So they bought an RV and made it home, and in the first year saved about $13,000!

The couple have five kids (3 full time, 2 they share custody of) in their amazing RV renovation, parked on Jordan’s mother’s land. They’ve lived tiny for 2 years now, and plan to continue doing so until they can afford to build a home.

I love their story because it shows that sometimes radical tiny living can be a temporary solution to living life with less financial stress. Even if you don’t plan on having 7 people in under 400 square feet forever, it might help you reach other goals! We got to interview Jordan, so be sure to read that Q&A at the end of the post. Seven People Living in an RV Saving for a Home

This family of 6 first downsized from a typical American home into a 5th wheel trailer some five years ago, and then downsized (again!) into their Tiny Shiny Home: A renovated, off-grid-friendly, Airstream! Because dad Jonathan works from home already, and the kids were homeschooled, they had what they needed to transition to full-time travel. They’ve spent the last 5 years on the road exploring the country from their tiny home.

Tiny House Giant Journey did an amazing video tour with the family, which you can watch below! The video was taken before the family announced last month that they purchased land in Arizona, and are building a tiny dome home (how cool) and creating an off-grid homestead. Be sure to follow them on Instagram at @tinyshinyhome for updates on their new adventure!
