Jess, Harry, and their cat Saffi have been living in a narrowboat for about a year after moving out of an apartment and doing vanlife for a while. They wanted a bit more space, so a 58 ft narrowboat seemed like a perfect way to keep a nomadic life but have some breathing room.

The boat needed some renovations, but thankfully Harry is a carpenter and had the skills to do a wonderful job. Jess works remotely in recruitment, so living on-the-move isn’t an issue. Enjoy our interview with the couple after the photo tour of their space!

Al works as a carpenter and Jessica works in PR, but when they come home at night, it’s to a cozy 55-foot-long narrowboat moored somewhere along the canalways of London.

Their narrowboat lifestyle allows them to live with a lower carbon footprint and get closer to nature, while still living in the city — the best of both worlds! And month-to-month their expenses are less than renting, although big-time expenses do pop up (like, you know, a new engine!).

While they’ve owned “Peace Frog” now for two years, they spent time on land after a fire burnt much of the boat, requiring a full renovation inside. That said, the renovation has made this boat quite gorgeous and homey! Jessica shares her tiny living story at the end of the photo tour, so be sure to read it! When COVID-19 shut down the theatre industry in London, it left Zoe and her partner in the lurch for work. But, they made lemons out of lemonade, and chased a long-time dream of living on the canalways of England in a narrowboat!

It’s significantly reduced their monthly living expenses, and given them their own space which they didn’t have in their previous pricey West London house share. They’ve only been on the water for a month, but are already loving being closer to nature.

I really love their narrowboat because it’s in “original” condition right now before they do some cosmetic updates, so you can see what old-fashioned narrowboats looked like! We got to do a Q&A with Zoe (@zogreenfield) which you can read after the photo tour below.

Did you know there was a rush on narrowboats in the UK during the pandemic? Whether as a way to escape or to save money in the midst of financial crisis, people have been making the move to living on-the-water — including Suzi and Joe.

They used to pay high rent for an apartment in London, and commute three hours a day to their jobs. Now they both “work-from-boat,” spending far less on utilities and using their “Continuous Cruising” license, which keeps them moving every two weeks to some new beautiful spot.

While their first couple months on the water haven’t been easy, Suzi (@on_the_rhymer) says they’re loving their new home and eco-friendly lifestyle in their off-grid narrowboat. Read the rest of our Q&A with the couple after the photo tour!

Olivia and her husband, Rob, have been living in a narrowboat in England for 7 years now! That’s an impressive amount of time for anyone to live in one place — let alone a tiny spot.

Originally the boat was only meant to offer them shelter temporarily while they saved up for a “normal” house, but once they got into tiny living, they never looked back. Not only can they move their home whenever they’d like, the simplicity of a minimalist life really suits them.

One great thing about their home: No loft! Olivia (@oliviakatewainwright) says the only real pain is emptying their toilet. Read our Q&A with Olivia after the photo tour of her floating home!
