This is the story of the Cedar Mountain Tiny House that was built by David Latimer after attending a Tumbleweed workshop back in 2015 with his father.

David went on to modifying the plans he bought at the workshop and started building two of his first tiny homes, one of them being this one. Afterward, as you may know, he went on to start New Frontier Tiny Homes, an epic tiny house company that has designed/built some of the most incredible tiny homes. So I guess you can say this is a chance to own a bit of history. This tiny house is available for $89,000 via Tiny House Listings. More details below.

This is a tiny house movement timeline… A brief history of tiny homes. How far back does the tiny house movement go? Some could argue that tiny homes have been here since the dawn of man. And it’s true, isn’t it? But for the purposes of this article, I’d like to start by skipping to the year 1854 because that’s the year that Henry David Thoreau published his book, Walden, after living in a 150-square-foot tiny cabin near Walden Pond on Ralph Waldo Emerson’s woodland property.

Little did he know, that he may be largely responsible for having sparked the giant tiny house movement that we are witnessing today. So please join me on a journey back in time, to explore the tiny homes of yesterday and see how they have inspired the tiny and small homes of today. And who knows, maybe we can figure out what the tiny homes of the future will be like? Let’s go…

This is proof that tiny houses on trailers aren’t a new thing!

Here they are set up on an oilfield in Freer, Texas around 1937.

These were oilfield houses in Freer, TX circa 1937. look how they dug out for wheels. Pretty basic, but everything comes around again.
Keep up the good work, Sam

This is an incredible tree trunk tiny house on wheels created before chainsaws existed! Tiny House Talk reader, Kerry, shared some great pictures and commentary with us about this incredible “blast from the past.” Tiny House living has always been a great idea!

Before chainsaws were invented, the logging industry in the United States & Canada was a seriously challenging occupation and we are only talking about 125 years ago. In the Pacific Northwest there were forests full of monster trees and cutting them down was done by hand. A friend sent me these photos and I had to share them with you.
