Ever wonder if there are any tiny houses in Canada?

If so good news because in this post I’m introducing you to a builder in the Nelson area.

Builder of Tiny Houses in Canada

I had a chance to speak with one of the owners, Seth, over the phone and he seems like a great guy.

I also received some photos from his business partner, Tom, to share with you. Hope you enjoy!

This particular model is called the “V” and it stands for versatile because the home is super compact and efficient.

This skinny small house in LA is brought to you by Kirsten Dirksen of Faircompanies.

This architect (Anonymous Architects) in LA wanted an affordable house so he found and purchased the smallest one he could find which was just 350-square-feet.

The only problem was that he wanted to be able to live and work from it so he was going to have to come up with some changes.

From 350 Sq. Ft. to 960 Sq. Ft.

He did this by requesting special planning to double the height of the structure. These numbers do include a garage though so it is quite a small home as you’ll see.

This is a 14′ by 20′ Kanga Tiny House int he city! It’s great because since it’s built on a foundation, the design is not subject to road limitations. For most people, something like this would be a better long-term solution versus a tiny house on wheels, don’t you think?

Tiny homes like this are a great option and they can still be very versatile. In many neighborhoods, you might already be allowed to build something like this in your backyard. You may be able to qualify for it as a guest house, pool house, accessory dwelling unit, in-law suite, etc.

Now here’s a tiny cabin with a twist that I wanted to show you. It’s best built on stilts so you can make the best of use of the fold out porch area.

We’ve already seen ideas like this being used on tiny houses on wheels. Joe at Tennessee Tiny Homes is doing it along with the folks over at Molecule Tiny Homes, for example.

I had an amazing time at the Relax Shacks workshop in Wilmington. I was able to meet so many bloggers and builders that I have known online – including Alex from right here at Tiny House Talk. I also had the privilege of spending more time with Ryan Mitchell of The Tiny Life – we even shared a condo for the weekend. At the workshop, he announced the release of his eBook Cracking the Code: A Guide to Building Codes and Zoning for the Tiny Houses.”

As a blogger, and someone who built a tiny home of my own, I am so grateful for the existence of this book. It is not overstating it to say it is an invaluable resource. I am often asked questions here on Tiny House Talk, over at my own blog, and on Facebook, about permits and codes. I had always felt powerless when faced with these inquiries as the answers aren’t so simple. Thankfully, Ryan Mitchell has come to the rescue by putting together years of research on building codes for his own house and releasing it as an eBook guide. Mitchell shares insight on how to work with your local government and how civil disobedience might be the best option for some tiny house builders.
