Up until now a majority of cottages were being designed for aging parents or as rentals accommodating an individual or a couple without children. These new larger cottages are also being designed for families with children including a 900 sq. ft. cottage we are designing in Ballard for a family of five. And a 1,000 sq. ft. cottage for a family of four.1
When an architect designs a van conversion, you get something like the Ryovan Project — a Japanese teahouse-inspired Sprinter van built on a 2018 Mercedes Sprinter 2500 4×4 for owners Saul and Ayaka. Designed by architect Andrew Wade Keating and built by High Grade Partners, it blends zen aesthetics with serious off-road capability.

This is an example of how NOT to build a cabin! It’s the worst tiny cabin that Derek Diedricksen has ever encountered and stayed at.
You can see a few shots of just how bad it is below and you can watch the entire video with Deek to learn about all of the terrible design and construction mistakes in this cabin, and how it is for sure going to collapse into the ground because of the way water is running into it. There’s also a travel trailer conversion and a portable micro cabin (not built on wheels but still portable), just for variety sake.
