When you visit the Site, we and our partners automatically collect certain technical information. This includes your IP address, browser and device type, operating system, referring page, pages viewed, and the date and time of your visit. This information is collected through cookies, pixels, and similar technologies (see below).

Cookies and similar technologies
A cookie is a small text file a website stores in your browser. “Session” cookies are deleted when you close your browser; “persistent” cookies stay until they expire or you delete them. We and our partners use cookies to keep the Site working and secure, remember your preferences, measure traffic, and show advertising that may be relevant to you.
Most browsers let you block or delete cookies in their settings. Blocking cookies may cause parts of the Site to stop working properly.
Advertising.
CMI Marketing, Inc., d/b/a Raptive (“Raptive”) is a service provider of this Site for the purposes of placing advertising on the Site, and Raptive will collect and use certain data for advertising purposes. To learn more about Raptive’s data usage, click here: https://raptive.com/creator-advertising-privacy-statement
Newsletter (Kit)
We send our newsletters with Kit (kit.com), our email service provider. If you submit Tiny House Matchmaker, we also add you to the Tiny House Talk newsletter if you aren’t already subscribed. Kit stores your email address and sign-up details for us. It may also record whether you open our emails and which links you click. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can also use the “Update your profile” link at the bottom of every email.
Links in our newsletters can pass your email address to the Site when you click them. When that happens, your email address may be shared with our advertising partner in a de-identified (hashed or encrypted) form for advertising, as described in Raptive’s statement linked above. Our emails also include an “Opt-out of preference-based advertising” link.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the Site. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect usage information, which we see only in aggregate reports. Google’s privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy.
Other third-party services on the Site
- Slickstream: provides search, content recommendations, and related engagement features on the Site. It may use cookies or local storage to do this.
- Comments: comments may be checked by an automated spam-detection service. A hashed (anonymized) version of your email address may be sent to Gravatar to check whether you have a Gravatar profile picture. See Automattic’s privacy policy: https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once your comment is approved, your profile picture is visible next to it.
- Embedded content: some posts include embedded videos, images, or posts from other websites (for example, video or social media platforms). Embedded content works as if you had visited the other site directly, and that site may collect data about you, use cookies, and track your interaction with it.
- Hosting and site providers: our web host and technical service providers process data on our behalf to keep the Site running.
Tiny House Matchmaker and builder referrals
Tiny House Matchmaker is an optional questionnaire that helps match you with tiny homes, builders, and communities. It runs on JotForm, which stores your answers for us.
What Matchmaker collects
- Your name (first and last) and email address
- Which best describes you (for example, individual buyer, family or couple, investor, or developer/builder)
- What you’re looking for, your approximate budget, and your timeline
- Where you hope to live and whether you’re open to relocating
- The type of setup you’re interested in, and whether you already have land
- Any specific needs or preferences you type in (such as accessibility needs, number of people, pets, or layout)
- Whether you want help finding options, and whether you’re open to being contacted by builders or communities
- For developers and builders only: how many units you’re considering, what stage you’re in, and what you’re primarily looking for
Newsletter
When you submit Matchmaker, we add you to the Tiny House Talk newsletter (sent through Kit) if you aren’t already subscribed. You can unsubscribe anytime with the link in any email.
How we share it
Only if you give us permission on the form, we may share or sell your Matchmaker information to qualified tiny house builders, dealers, communities, and related businesses so they can contact you about homes, land, or services. Under California law (CCPA/CPRA) and similar state laws, this may count as a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information. Anything you type in the “specific needs or preferences” box is shared too, so only include what you’re comfortable sharing.
These businesses use your information under their own privacy policies, not this one. Please review their policies when they contact you.
Withdrawing permission
You can withdraw your permission or opt out of future sales at any time by emailing tinyhousetalk@gmail.com. This stops future sharing, but it doesn’t undo leads we’ve already shared. To stop hearing from a business that already has your information, contact that business directly.
What we don’t sell
We don’t sell or share newsletter sign-ups, comments, messages, or analytics data with builders or other businesses as leads. The only other “sale” or “sharing” that may happen under state privacy laws is the advertising activity described under “Advertising.” and “Newsletter (Kit)” above, which you can opt out of using the footer link.
Affiliate links
Some links on the Site are affiliate links. If you click one and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate programs use cookies to track referrals. We are a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. See our Affiliate Disclosure.
How we share information
Outside Matchmaker, we do not sell your name, email address, or other contact information. We share information only:
- With tiny house builders, dealers, communities, and related businesses, when you give us permission through Matchmaker (see above)
- With service providers that help us run the Site and newsletters (such as Raptive, Kit, Google, and our host), under their own privacy terms
- When you post publicly, such as comments and content you submit for publication
- If required by law, or to protect our rights, our users, or the public
- As part of a business transfer, such as a merger, sale of assets, or bankruptcy, in which case your information may be transferred to the new owner
How long we keep information
- Comments: kept indefinitely (along with their metadata) so we can recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically.
- Newsletter data: kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.
- Messages and submissions: kept as long as needed to respond and for our records.
- Matchmaker submissions: kept as long as needed to match you and for our records, or until you ask us to delete them. Deleting them from our records does not delete copies already shared with businesses.
- Registered users: can see, edit, or delete their profile information at any time (usernames cannot be changed).
We may keep some information when we are required to for legal, administrative, or security reasons.
Your choices and rights
For everyone
- Email: click “Unsubscribe” in any email.
- Ads: to opt out of the sale or sharing of your information for advertising, use the opt-out link in the footer of the Site. You can also manage ad personalization at https://adssettings.google.com and opt out of interest-based ads through the Network Advertising Initiative (https://optout.networkadvertising.org) or the DAA (https://optout.aboutads.info). These opt-outs use cookies, so if you clear your cookies you will need to opt out again.
- Your data: you can ask us to export, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you, such as your comments or newsletter subscription. Send us a link to your comment or the email address you used so we can find it.
California and other U.S. state residents
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose; to access, correct, or delete it; and to opt out of its “sale” or “sharing.” We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
In the past 12 months, we may have sold or shared these categories of personal information:
- Matchmaker leads (only with your permission): identifiers (name and email address) and the preferences you give on the form (buyer type, what you’re looking for, budget, timeline, desired location, openness to relocating, setup type, land, specific needs, and, for developers, units, stage, and goals). Recipients: tiny house builders, dealers, communities, and related businesses.
- Advertising: online identifiers, device information, and browsing activity collected by cookies and similar technologies, plus a de-identified (hashed or encrypted) email address when you click a newsletter link. Recipients: our advertising service provider, Raptive, and its advertising partners. Under these laws, sharing information with an advertising service provider can count as a “sale” or “sharing” even when no money changes hands.
Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information
- Matchmaker leads: email tinyhousetalk@gmail.com with the subject “Do Not Sell or Share” and the email address you used on the form.
- Advertising: use the opt-out link in the footer of the Site.
