Such a great place! I love that region. I used to live near there. Joshua Tree National Park is magical. I wish people could afford nice places like this to live in…but that seems to be non-existent these days except for a few. They’re all aribnb’s now. Alas.

At $283+ per night, that’s quite the pricey “glamping!” I love Joshua Tree, but think I’ll have to go with a much more economical approach, no matter how beautiful the cabin is!

It would be more economical to rent an RV and stay at a local RV Park. I’m tired of seeing the tiny house movement taken over by wealthy hipsters trying to be “entrepreneurs” by buying or building tiny houses and turning them in to BnBs or “glamping” facilities. There are people for whom the tiny lifestyle would mean stable, sustainable housing, not some kind of “fun” idea. Sheesh. SMH

No comment. This cabin was built as a money-making proposition, and violates the heart of the Tiny House movement…namely, inexpensive and largely self-sufficient ways of creating a small space that is livable and comfortable for a young person or family starting out, or for an older couple or person in the latter part of their lives, so they have the money to devote to other things, like travel, or maybe just so they needn’t be worrying constantly about finances. This fancy-schmancy hipster nonsense is irritating, and frankly, offensive.

      Angela,
Not everyone who wishes to live in a tiny/small house is on a tight budget.
Living small is more the life style of making your life simpler.
If I can afford to buy or build a $400k small house and make it beautiful in a great area then there is nothing anti-small house about that just because others cant afford to.
After all, a $400k small house may end up retaining or increasing in value if built in the right area so the $400k or more may come back to me if I sell.
I am thinking about retiring and one option would be to build a very nice small house to live in but travel as much as possible. However, if I can Air BNB it out while away it saves or adds to my retirement savings. And with Air BNB being short term I do not have to worry about long term tenants so can return whenever I want after my travels.
If I put $100k to build and finance $300k then if I clear $1,500/month that pays the mortgage and I save my pile and I’m living mortgage free while traveling.

There are lots of ways to make small house living work.

Sounds like a good plan, but first read about Air BnB owners and the bed bug problem.

Angela~ I think the “heart” of the tiny house movement is whatever is in Your heart how can that be a “violation”. For some it is about cost, for others it may be about mobility or living a minimalist lifestyle. I think that people can spend as little or as much as their heart desires and their bank accounts can afford. I find it hard to swallow that another person living their dream could be “offensive” to someone. Just my thoughts. 🙂
