Yacht-Inspired Tiny House For Sale in Texas

This architect got in touch with us about the tiny home he built for himself, but can’t live in due to personal reasons. I’ll let him tell you about the house:

After watching a lot of tiny house blogs and videos I finally decided to build my own. One of the main reasons to start building my own was because I feel that living in a tiny house forces you to reevaluate what is really important in life. I wanted to stop focusing so much in stuff.

UPDATE: There’s also a video tour at the end, which our reader James D. found!

VIDEO: Tiny Home on Wheel Walk-through!

From The Builder

So I started with the design. I wanted to build a cozy but modern tiny house for myself. For inspiration for this project I took as reference some yachts layouts and finishes as they pack a lot of storage in a small space too and I love the high quality look.

So construction phase started. Although I am an architect and design came easy, I had a lot of things to learn about building it myself. So I hired a couple of contractors who did all the heavy work and in the process I learnt some building skills. We took around 7 months to get it done. However due to several personal issues I couldn’t continue to live in it and decided to sell it. I ask for it $49,900 which I consider reasonable compared to some other similar tiny houses. This one at the moment is located in Laredo, Texas. So I created a nice website in order to sell it and offer others to build or design their own. In the future I plan to create a blog on building and designs tips I learnt on the way and hope in the future to be able to be part of the tiny house movement.

Your design is spectacular! Congratulations! I cannot imagine how you built it under $50,000; whoever buys it is getting a bargain in addition to a wonderful place to live.

I like style and floor plan as well as the outside appearance.
Standing headroom in front of the bed is great. it makes it easier to make it up. This kitchen is made for cooking.
However, it lacks a dining area which is astonishing with this kitchen and narrow sitting bench doesn’t appear comfortable

IKEA sells this awesome table that folds up on the sides. I think it’d be a great addition to any tiny house without a built-in dinette. https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/norden-gateleg-table-birch-90423887/ I had one when I was in a tiny apartment in Scotland.

That’s a folding craft table, it’s not exclusive to IKEA, it can be found under different names/brands and some variations on the types of drawers/shelves in the middle… Some people have DIY built their own as well…

While a little larger/wider version is often used as a sewing machine table or home office desk…

It’s explained on their website, they’re based in Mexico and thus have less labor costs and can offer builds for what they claim is up to 40% less…

Natalie, I had one too. But there is a better version which has 4 chairs instead of drawers which avoids to sit beside each other when eating which I don’t like. Eating is for me a communication event too and I want to see face of my partner when doing so.

Well, there is more which appears to me not so practical in daily life.
Firstly, counter space under be access. I don’t know about height of open space above counter top but it appears to me useful for storage rather then working as long as you aren’t very short.
Secondly, so called walkway between lofts. As long as you don’t have small children I would call it crawl way.

Haha yes likely more of a crawl-way
