      Older beds, like vintage pieces or antique beds, tend to be higher off the ground, up to around 36” inches (914.4 mm). There being 2 reasons they used to do that being avoiding cold drafts, mind older homes were drafty, keeping the bed higher with the warmer air and aesthetics, with how it relates to the size of the room… Similar to High Boy furniture, etc.

      However, they did have step stools to compensate and you can see one next to the bed, in the right corner of the 3rd photo down… While that could be a convenient space for storage, specifically for your luggage…

      And it looks like it’ll allow anyone laying down to still have a clear view of the fire place…

    Beautiful. When I grew up in Hot Springs there was nothing this cute–at least that I remember!
