This is a whimsical little church cottage in Campiglia, Cinqueterre, Italy. The 301 sq. ft. structure was originally built in 1808 as a village chapel and was renovated two hundred years later in 2008.
It’s located in a small village setting in northwest Italy with a terrace deck in the back about 10 meters away from the home itself. Since the cottage is 400 meters above sea level, you can enjoy majestic sea views from here. And yes, it is available to book on Airbnb.

Wow! what a view! Some very unusual design elements. Very pretty!
I like this a LOT! One thing I don’t is the glass floor of the bedroom… kinda kinky and gross at the same time… now I gotta go and wash me eyes out. rg&dfc
This kind of old rural buildings, have all the same problem: small windows little sunlight, so “better outsider than inside”. I currently live in my boat right in this area Sarzana, and I know of numerous landscape constraints…..; but here, however the semplicity and creativity has triunphed greatly, and maybe you could improve the light with a white Travertine for floor and a large skylight on the roof.
The glass ceiling/floor to the mezzanine makes the building appear bigger with the 2 beds seeming to float a lá Harry Potter style. Truly a fabulous design that makes the most of not much in the way of natural light, normal given it is an old building. Really a fabulous design.
The glass floors need to go. Wish they had honored its history a bit more, at least with some period construction here and there. Glad it doesn’t look like a church inside, though. If I pay a bunch of money to vacation in Italy and stay in a really old structure, I want to feel more like I’m in Italy in a really old structure. Modern amenities but I want the atmosphere. I think they really missed the mark on this one.
