Today, Samantha and Herb are showing off their 1973 Viscount Caravan conversion — a simple lockdown project that completely changed their lives! Samantha was an interior designer by trade and Herb was a retail manager. Together they renovated 13 homes, but the caravan transformation was the catalyst to get them into tiny living.
Samantha admits she wasn’t a fan after the first few nights she spent sleeping in Hunter, but with time, that changed. Before they knew it, the couple retired early so that they could travel to Australia in the caravan. Since then, they’ve renovated and sold two more caravans and are now in their DIY bus home! But let’s start by checking out their maiden project — a sleek vintage trailer renovation.

Black & White Vintage Trailer Renovation
At almost 40 years old, Hunter was pretty beaten up at first.
But that’s nothing paint couldn’t fix!
Here’s a little before shot of the camper.
They removed everything down to the studs.
Now, look at it! Breathtaking.
I love the skylights.
Every detail is perfectly selected.
Here’s what the kitchen looked like.
And now it’s this sleek spot.
The view through the back window.
There’s cozy bench seating with lots of pillows.
I like the vanity space here.
Check out these before and after shots!
The bench area transformation.
Houseplants add so much to a tiny home.

From Samantha:
I am an interior designer, property stylist and visual merchandiser. My husband Herb who was a retail manager is my partner in crime and we have renovated 13 homes together and now add a vintage caravan and bus to our list of home renovations, bringing it up to 15.
I have always been passionate about design and architecture, but it was coupled with our love of travel that we decided that we would embark on tiny home creations. Our first endeavour was our 1973 Viscount Caravan that we affectionately called Hunter. He was our Covid project when our international travel plans were put on hold. I loved the process of creating a hotel on wheels, but actually didn’t enjoy our first few nights using him. As time went on, I learnt to love the caravan lifestyles and we retired early from work in February 2020 at the ages of just 49 and 51! We realised that we could live a more fulfilled life with so much less and this was the perfect vessel for us to see Australia.

very stylish renovation but certainly not practical – if there is no bathroom it isn’t livable for me
I ❤️ the final result of this project. But, where is the bathroom 🚽? Instead of the bench I would put a shower stall and a potty 😉. But the rest is perfect!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I absolutely LOVE this home! The vanity/dresser is beautiful and a very smart idea. I’ve never seen that in any tiny home. Inside and out this home is phenomenal!! Very well done!
Wow! What a difference! Really lovely and comfortable.
This is a stunning renovation. I would never have expected that black would be found in a travel trailer because of its normal impact on the looks of the spaciousness. It looks fabulous! However I must agree with other comments — how are you going to see Australian without a toilet at least?
They have a hidden toilet for emergencies but it’s not an issue for them…
Great job, well done. For me it lacks a bathroom.
Incredible —-WOW!
