Villa Hamster Tiny House in Nantes, France

I had to show you this weird but interesting Villa Hamster tiny house in Nantes, France.

It’s a hotel that you can actually stay at and it’s set up with a human-sized hamster wheel inside!

Beyond that you can climb a spiral staircase up to your sleeping loft. I think it wouldd be pretty fun to stay there, how about you?

When I looked further into it, however, it seems like the human-sized hamster wheel has been removed and replaced with a more functional built-in table (see below). Don’t worry, I’ll show you both versions of this tiny house below. 🙂

Considering the fact that we recently lost David Goldberg due to head injury from an allegedly “safe” treadmill, this human hamster wheel was one lawsuit away from closing up this villa.

Just because “you build it” doesn’t mean that they should “come” use it.

I’m not too keen on the interior of this villa. Sorry. 🙁

Don’t go to Burning Man. Can’t sanitize everything.

Right Brandon. Accidents happen, and people need to be responsible for their own actions.

This has an “unfinished basement” feeling to me. This is a “Villa”?

I love it! How refreshing to see folks using a small space fire getaways in such a fun and creative way. Isn’t that what life is all about?

I agree with you about the wheel as well as the layout. Looks like it is unfinished. Also, I thought it said spiral staircase. I had to go back several times to look. Only spiral is the cage over the ladder. Maybe spiral is different there then here. Personally, not crazy about the “hanging bed” cage.

Who lives here, the Marquis de Sade?

    • May 12, 2015, 3:01 pm

I’m glad I’m not the only on thinking that! I wonder where you sleep? Or maybe you better not!! BWAAHAHAHA (That was supposed to be a maniacal laugh but it didn’t quite work.)

        Cheers Lannette!
The second picture down looks like one of the cages people were kept in, and that bathroom looks prime for butchering and wash-down. It’s a creepy joint.

Hmm. I’m all for human beings taking their own chances. This isn’t a space shuttle, nor is a treadmill. It’s a freaking self propelled hamster wheel, for crying out loud. Accidents happen, especially when people rely on “safety” marketing to think they are free to disregard all cognitive ability to navigate simple things. You have to pay attention, and assume risk. Equipment breaking due to shoddy or cheap design and craftsmanship is the only thing adults shouldn’t have to take responsibility upon themselves for…and even then, in this day and age of internet and customer reviews, etc, I’m not sure we can excuse ourselves from even that. Having said that, it’s not the comfiest looking place, but someone definitely had a vision that was carried out well. My daughter would love it!

Interesting. I like the way he angeled the room so it’s not a square box, and the ‘slice of cheese’ table is darling. But that hampster wheel, has GOT to go. 🙂

This apartment will make a lot more sense if you familiarize yourself with the most amazing amusement park in the world, found in… Nantes, France. It’s a Jules Verne inspired Steampunk wonderland called the Isle of the Machines. Seriously one of the most amazing things, that not many people know about. Definately on my bucket list.

Thanks Melody for explaining why this is so cold and downright scary. Not my cup of tea however I bet they stay booked. 🙂

I’m with Cahow – and way too many sharp corners to jab into my hips and thighs – no thanks! Even just on vacation – I’d rather come home with a tan, than black and blue.

What a mess. Who would ever be comfortable there.

Certainly a fitting name! Well knowing just how small some of those French places are, I guess they made the best use of what they had.
At least a bath and a shower – big bonus. And decent size kitchen. You would have a bit of a climb if you need the toilet in the middle of the night – tricky. Stay sober!

What are those bags hanging from the loft……they look like ballasts holding down a hot air balloon.
I’m not sure about this one Alex…hamsters have that ‘smell’ and I can’t wrap my mind around the interior…nothing ‘inviting’ about this. What is the style of the outside bldg.? What do the ‘grounds’ look like?
Yep…The hamster thing is very wrong in so many ways….

Okaaaay. Really? Looks fine if you want to live in a rat-hole.

The apartment is the strangest thing I have seen in a long time. I am not sure if I like it, Steampunk or not. However, I LOVE the hamster wheel. As an ex gymnast who has seen Cirque Du Soleil shows, I would have so much fun with that thing. Handstand while you spin around anyone? Yeah!

One thing I do like about the apt is the clever use of such an odd space, right down to the triangle table.

Ah, but does it have that authentic hamster wheel squeak? You know, the one guaranteed to wake everybody when the hamster, er, human goes nuts on it at 2 am?

I don’t mean to offend, but this place creeps me out a bit. I don’t think inspiration in rodent habitats is good for living décor. Remembering children’s books, the animal abodes were made to be like fairy-tale human abodes not vice versa, I am thinking on reflection, for a very good reason.

I have finally seen a tiny house that I absolutely dislike; I didn’t see one really pretty or well-planned room, including the hamster wheel/table area. It just didn’t do a thing for me. Oh, well, one man’s meat is another (wo)man’s poison.

Oh, uhm…Interesting…it’s definitely French!, that is a unique cultural experience to be had, it’s got the artsy going (thank you for the Jules Verne reference , was thinking time machine ish from the first pic)… Shame everyone has to make negative of someones designs and character when its displayed. These are our spaces as we envision, with no committee necessary, or might as well live as everyone else does in typified suburbia (boring).

They took out the wheel so it’s a non-issue. I am wondering what, if any, purpose the bags hanging off the loft serve? Maybe it’s another quirky aesthetic?? Hobo chic??

  • Rue
    May 15, 2015, 6:16 pm

My guess is that the bags hanging off the bed are for clothing storage. Aesthetics aside, that’s not a bad idea in this space. There’s sure nowhere else to put ’em.

At the risk of sounding risqué, I hope for the sake of any couples staying there that the bed is sturdier than it looks. 😉

This looks like a mess to me and that wheel is just plain odd.
