Unique Staircase to Loft in this 206 Sq. Ft. Tiny House

Take a look at this unique staircase to loft in this 206 sq. ft. tiny home. The tiny home was built by a high school teacher in the Netherlands with no prior building experience.

So when you step into the house, the staircase is directly to your right — this is on the rear end of the trailer, opposite of the tongue.

I like it because the design and placement of the staircase makes it look like it’s a completely separate bedroom, doesn’t it?

Pretty awesome, isn’t it?

So would you consider this loft design for your tiny house project?

Personally, I like it! But can you think of any drawbacks to this design?

I actually really love this. I like the separation and the privacy of the sleeping loft. The stairs look much safer than some of the stairs I’ve seen in tiny houses. Very nice design!

I love this design of the staircase.

This promptly became/is my favorite THOW layout. The stair placement maximizes the remaining useable space and allows for better privacy for the loft. I love that there’s a window in the stairwell.

Gotta say, the creativity one sees on tinyhousetalk is so exciting – so many details, handicrafts, clever ideas and repurposing of ordinary and discarded materials into new service — all in such a limited framework. Thanks for the joy Alex. Keep it up!

There are no photos of the possible bath area across from entry door and no idea what is in the wall space left of entry door. How much head clearance is there in the loft? Overall a nice simple layout. I wonder if one could insert the door a little to allow for a drop down deck.

Most of these photos are from the original article that was posted back in August… The bathroom wasn’t ready then but there may be photos of it now on the owner’s facebook page…

Recessing the door for a fold down deck would be a bit tight in this layout but it could be done… A fold down metal deck could be thin enough to allow for a full size fold down deck.

The roof overhang is usually about 3″, which means the walls are already recessed in about that much to keep the structure within road legal width limits…

While houses that go beyond the road legal limits wouldn’t have that restriction and allow you more design options… Though, there are more strict restrictions in most European countries than there are in the states…
