Tiny home in Florida? Um-m-m…NO! Tiny homes and hurricanes are a recipe for disaster.

Thank U, Kirk. That same thought hit me as soon as I read the headline. I like the beautiful landscaping of this complex, and the facades of the tiny houses are attractive. Are they built to hurricane code? That is the same fear I have with tiny houses on wheels in tornado regions, such as my home sate of Arkansas. These comments are respectfully submitted.

The building codes in Florida are very strict. You can not even build or purchase a shed without it being engineered to withstand winds over 200mph. In order to obtain building permits for these homes they would all have had to pass through the Building Dept at the County in which they were built and pass inspections. I think tiny home living and compact living is awesome. However, for me, there is too small. Everyone is different. Having affordable housing options is fantastic! Especially for the young firt time home buyers or those who just want to get out of the snow once in awhile. Island Smiles : ) Tropaholic.com. Your Tropical Clothing and Gifts Headquarters. Only if not properly built or improperly placed. Since, so far that hasn’t been the case for tiny homes that have been in that state. Some have even been there now for over 15-20 years now and thus have been through multiple storms and are still doing fine… This includes Escape Homes that have been used as AirBNB’s…

Mind, tiny homes are usually very heavy and built extremely strong. While having a much smaller surface area for wind to push against than a larger home, as well as usually being anchored like Manufactured Homes usually are in Florida… Some are even rated to handle over 200 MPH winds…

Container conversions, especially, will provide more protection than your typical residential house… It’s usually the details of how something is built that matters more than it’s size… Just like the difference from a car and a tank, there can be a world of difference in just durability…

Also, things like shape can be more of a factor. Like a round building allows wind to flow around it instead of against it. So can withstand far higher winds before actually being effected. It’s one of the reasons options like Yurts can be used in places with very high winds, despite it being basically a tent structure since it’s a round structure.

Size is only one of many things to consider and it won’t always be that important, depending on the other factors…

Love these communities. Hoping to see more of them in cooler climates. I would not tolerate the summers in Florida. And, of course, the homes are all wonderful!

I love these email flyers. My wife hates even the thought of one, she even hates Florida. You can be assured that if she were ever to pass (she’s 79 now) I will be little Housebound. Thanks again.
