This is a tiny house that’s on display at the Los Angeles California Science Center. So if you’re in the area, this is a great opportunity to get to tour a tiny home on wheels since it’s on display until February 16, 2016.

I wanted to let you know that the California Science Center in Los Angeles, CA has a tiny house on display until February 2016. I visited it this past weekend. It was really nicely done, though it wasn’t built out with all the shelving and cubbies that you normally might see. It did have a neat spiral staircase up to the loft, a lovely loft with windows all across the top roofline, a table that folds out and seats 7 people, a nice kitchen with stainless steel sink, and a toilet / shower combo just off the kitchen.

The 170 square foot Tiny House exhibit currently on display at the California Science Center showcases innovative plastic building products that can reduce energy use, improve durability, and ease maintenance—while saving homeowners money on energy bills.

Beautiful! I find gable roofs horribly unsuitable for THOWs (what a criminal waste of space!), so this is a great compromise for anyone who insists on a gable roof. I am always wondering if US THs have gable roofs because of some law?? Anyone can answer?
“showcases innovative plastic building” – it does look a bit “plasticy” on the outside, doesn’t it? But beautiful. And the entry door looks GREAT! In fact all the interior is beautiful, must have been an artist at work!
The reason people use gable roofs in tiny homes is because they increase usable space in the loft. Other that that it’s purely esthetic.
Her in UK a flat roof would be hopeless, with all the rain we get. I presume it rains in US? Steep gables are common in Alpine Europe where snow is common. Is it more aerodynamic than some flat roofs? I actuality like the shape, but maybe that’s because I’m English 🙂
Very nicely built, but that spiral staircase is, IMO, a bad accident waiting to happen. What’s to keep someone from falling off of it with no handrails to hold on to? It would be especially dangerous for someone having to get up and go downstairs at 3AM in the dark, not being able to see where he/she is stepping–unless there was a nightlight plugged in for nighttime illumination. I would steer clear of this design!
