Tiny House Design Contest on HGTV’s Design Star

If you watch Design Star on HGTV, you might have already seen the preview for their upcoming tiny house design contest.

On episode nine this Monday, September 5th, 2011 at 9pm eastern standard time, the three remaining designer finalists are told they must each do a complete make over on an entire house.

Designer Finalists to do Complete Make Over on Tiny House

What the contestants don’t know about their make over project is that the home will be less than 100 square feet.

I’m sure it will be a shock to them when that’s revealed on the show.

This means they’ll have to think outside of the box when it comes to space management and organization.

Update: You can watch the entire episode right now on the HGTV Design Star website.

Small House Movement Continues to Grow

This is going to be an interesting episode that will create more interest for the small house lifestyle.

Stamper Box Bungalow Tiny House Design by Jay ShaferThe homes that are going to be featured in this episode are three of Jay Shafer’s new Box Bungalow designs from Tumbleweed Tiny Houses.

Tumbleweed Tiny Houses

Jay Shafer, founder of Tumbleweed Houses, has lived in houses less than 120 square feet for more than ten years.

Throughout those years he has become an expert in design and space management for small spaces. His designs make living in tiny houses somewhat of a luxury.

Here’s a Video Tour of One of Jay’s Designs

In case you haven’t seen video footage of one of Tumbleweed’s tiny house designs, this is a video tour of his 89-square-foot Epu which is built onto a trailer. Video interview is thanks to Kirsten Dirksen of Faircompanies.com.

That is absolutely stunning. I love how the attic is being utilized as a bedroom. Very cute design. The sink is amazing.
