Awesome! I have been wondering why his videos on youtube have slowed down. My DVR is set!

Will it air again?? We were never informed that it was finely airing! We were the shop Derek was in for this episode! We are posting now and our FB fans are looking for a ‘re-air’ date??

Hi Alex, I’m don’t use Facebook or other options but I do want to say how much I look forward to your newsletter. It’s sad to me that if people don’t have anything good/positive to say they just don’t keep their mouths shut. We all have different things we like, thank goodness, so please don’t let the jerks stop you from sending us your newsletters. You can’t please everyone. I think you do a wonderful job, blessings to you.

What’s wrong with the newsletters? I love everything about them. Keep up the good job Alex.
Nancy, you hit the nail on the head.

I cant wait to receive the newsletter just like yourself. I tend to try to remain positive and not to comment on others reflections. Alex does a magic job of the newsletter and it is an irreplaceable resource. Thanks for sharing. Cheers from Australia

Just started watching it. Love the wall made of salvage windows! Looks good but it appears that the family does not intend to live in the house only to use it as a “get away.” If that is the case, too bad because I am interested in downsizing, and tiny “living” not tiny getaways. Not giving up on the series, I hope they will explore hacks for downsizing, green construction, AND tiny living.

Haven’t seen the show yet, will grab it off the stream as soon as it’s linked. I have watched quite a few shows on Tiny Homes / Houses and sadly there is one “set” that is missing… a full series on “this is how to build your own TH” from start to finish… showing details and tips etc and providing insights into the difficulties of building such… Ever notice how the tough things, difficulties and special quirks of “mobile housing” is always minimized / downplayed. I’m certain they would have some excuses (mostly generated by some leaching lawyers) as to why they cannot or will not do such a detail series show.

In case others haven’t seen it, check out Tiny House Nation on DIY network. It has some of the elements mentioned in Steve’s post, tiny houses on wheels and stationary too.
Steve, you are right, it would be nice to see a program that is a start to finish project that included working through the tough stuff like building codes, materials selection, downsizing, off-grid living, etc.

nancy- I don’t think anyone complains about Alex’s news letter, it is damn informative. People might complain or have an opinion on a TH and that is to be expected and often warranted.

Alex, I will chime in on how you include so much and even some old stuff I may have missed, and I like that you do not seem to filter to just one taste… we don’t all march to the same drummer (I march to a Tuba player 🙂

Congrats Deek! It was an awesome show. You did great! I would live in that tiny house for sure. Its beautiful. Also happy to see the Tiny House Movement get exposure on TV. Hopefully it will help in changing county codes so more of us can build one and have a place to put it. Thanks to Alex too for all you do!

I feel a little let down, the first TH was more of a whimsical hangout than a TH that you can live in year round. No insulation and you could see a very large gap between one of the windows and the frame (Arched window at the top) This was more like his “Relax Shacks” he likes to build… I am hoping he does some more serious ones for year round living, especially in hot areas of the country.

      Bruce,
My thoughts exactly (see my comment below); seriously hope that HGTV will continue this series, with a focus on sustainable building techniques.

Deek is a very creative guy; unfortunately, as with many other posts, not practical. Having lived in New England, I would classify this as a “relax shack”, but never a “home”. Floor/walls/windows/roof have zero energy efficiency. What this HGTV TH movement needs is a “home/house” building professional, that can create a sustainable dwelling.

I am encouraged by and echo the comments expressing disappointment about the show. Six workmen and an interior decorator ripping through the forest on ATVs, ripping up the forest in pickup trucks, lagging into healthy trees, building over a seasonal runoff creek which will be a mosquito breeding ground and then proceeding to build what is basically a shack is not, IMHO, representative of the tiny house movement.
