    Finally! People are waking up to the future. Tiny Houses on Wheels is a BIG problem solver for students, Seniors, low income to no income folks.
    This is very exciting. I’m glad to see legislators are being open-minded about this. Wonderful.

    They didn’t approve Tiny Houses on wheels according to the report. They have to be on foundations. What is really needed is Tiny Houses on wheel approval. Like Fresno, Ojai and Sur Tx. Here is the problem with requiring foundations. This makes them unaffordable to the people who most need homes.

    I am unclear about a couple of things. Seems like the commentator kept talking when important info was being given. Does anyone know if Atlanta is allowing tiny homes on their own lots, or only as accessory dwellings? Did this story say they have to be on permanent foundations, or could they be on wheels, anchored, and skirted like a mobile home? And did he say they would be legal in 2018 or 2019? Thanks to anyone who can answer these questions. I wonder too, if Atlanta would allow tiny house communities, like OM in Madison, and some I’ve read about in Portland.

    I hope more states and cities come around to tiny/small house living; it would be the answer for low income people who live in over taxed and pricey homes like California.

    A huge thanks goes out to Robert Reed, Will Johnston and Kokoon’s own Jolan Stoltz !! They were instrumental in getting this ordinance passed.
    Please keep this in perspective for the affordable housing movement, having the authorities approve and adapt fixed foundations in vital in the journey towards THOW. There is still a resistance to the nomadic nature of “on wheels ” safety and construction code violations. As these are addressed and verified (@NOAHCertified.org does one off certifications) acceptance will grow. Atlanta is a HUGE market that is leading the way in balancing 1.8M homes with 65K ADU houses so the people working in the service industry can live close to the restaurants / venues we all enjoy. This is a step in the right direction and we are grateful to Georgia for making opportunities of safe affordable houses to those that seek them. Other states will no doubt be looking to the Ga. code for a feasible archetype. (as no doubt Ga. looked to other states) As for affordability, Kokoon Homes KITs has 400 sq.ft. fire-safe soy insulated steel frame kits, DIY starting at $9,950, delivery anywhere. A great positive step forward with more to come.

        ADU = Accessory Dwelling Units. Many letters being bandied about. Some call them Secondary Dwelling Units. Any change in laws takes some time, it is an indicator that affordable housing is heading in a safe, logical direction.

          Ooops, meaning 2 separate houses on the same lot – Zoning will be the determining factor for being to take advantage of this option.

    This is very exciting. If this gets approved a lot of other restrictions will lift. IE Solar, Water Catchment, etc. Hopefully, manufacturers will stop building them and selling “shells” for $20,000+. Our local college built an 136 sq. ft. one at cost and above code for roughly $5,800. Lowes and Home Depot sold all the materials at cost. Way to go GA. Also, if you’re eyeing shells you may as well check out a shed company. Call them and ask them to build your shed to code. Many already do and most have better warranties than contractors. A local company offers a 10 year warranty. You’d be surprised. I was quoted $3,800 for an 8×16 shell with a loft. This is a place nearby in GA http://www.betterbiltbldgs.com/Buildings2.html

      There are great ways to find inexpensive shells for sure 🙂
