Almost two years ago I blogged about giant sewage tubes being turned into a tiny house hotel in Mexico.
Today, so far, we’ve got three stick built tiny houses on trailers in Portland, Oregon as the country’s first official “Tiny House Hotel.”
And I’ll bet there’s more in the works. But anyways, let me introduce you to the owners and creators of this magnificent place.

Notice in the photos above and below how they used a steel frame to save a significant amount of space in the sleeping loft. Pretty smart move I’d say instead of trying to frame it using wood. What do you think?

Alex, thanks for an expanded view of these gems and the Tiny House Hotel. I could 100% stay at The Pearl; next in line would be The Tandom. The Rosebud…nope. Too cluttery and closed-in for my tastes.
Prices listed per stay start at $125/night, which in an urban area is far below market value. Also, considering that the proprietor’s are part of a mission and opening up the world of tiny living to newbie’s and seasoned owner’s of tiny homes, $125 is cheap!cheap!cheap!
Out here, in Michigan, we have those classic 1950’s motor lodge tiny homes and they go for $150/night and we’re IN THE STICKS! Unless you want to spend your entire time out here visiting wineries, antique stores and going to the beach, there is NOTHING else to do, unless of course you live here, and then there’s a 1,000 things to do…at home.
Of course, even $125 per night is beyond everyone’s budget but for what you get by staying here and also the fact that this is the couple’s INCOME, you can’t expect them to give it away now, can you? Give up 125 cups of coffee at McDonald’s for a buck and you’ve got your one night at this hotel. 😀
I definitely like the idea of the steel frame for the loft, since vertical room is at such a premium!
The last one looks the nicest. Is it intentionally spelled “Tandom,” or is is it a slip, a misspelling of “tandem”? [a few seconds later: I just checked it on tinyhousehotel.com, and it is “Tandem” (with an e).]
My wife and I have never spent more than about $80 or $85 for a motel room, but it might be worth it if we were “test-driving” tiny houses in the process of shopping for one.
Garth: If you’ve never spent more than $80-$85 for a motel room, than I’d love the name of your trip website you’re finding these deals at! (LOL) For motels, I’ve spent from $34-$185/night (current prices) and for hotels up to $500/night. I think it’s based on Location-Location-Location and of course deals you can find on the web.
What I am wondering is the type of zoning that was required for this application and what the development process was like in order to get permits to have multiple tiny houses on a lot? My dream is to have a piece of land which by zoning allows me to have my own tiny home and several spaces for others to rent for their tiny homes so that we have a tiny home community.
Jessica, where are you looking to buy land for your tiny home community? This is something that I have also been thinking about doing someday (when I retire?)
I’d go through airbnb & stay in one of these in a heartbeat! And sharing with my daughter, just $35 or slightly more/night? That I can live with!
