I really like the ceilings. They give a little warmth to the modern look.

This is truly nice! The combo of warm woods, along with white and plenty of windows and skylights for light. The generous counter spaces (nice white Quartz), a big fridge, and what looks like plenty of storage — a winner!!

The dark ceiling is way too dominating.

I’m surprised I would like a THOW named Jock so much! Hey, change the gray to a soft green in the kitchen and maybe even black on the exterior, and you could call it Jill! hahaha Well, that’s a stretch, I suppose. Love the kitchen! The living area with the bump out desk area are fabulous! Great storage…nice closet! I don’t really need a loft but it could come in handy for storage and I’d like an actual washer AND dryer instead of the combo but otherwise, this is really fabulous! Did I mention that I love the kitchen?????

Well, there are other possible meanings of the name. For example, if the owner is Scottish it could be a forename, basically a variant of John or Jack, or meant as a nickname for someone of Scottish origin… Can also reference someone who excels, such as athlete or someone who is good at something. Like for programming computers there’s terms like compiler jock, among other examples.

Though, it does also have negative interpretations, but that’s unlikely to be the case here…

This house is really sleek, BUT I really can’t call it a tiny HOME>..it is more of a TINY KITCHEN. There is basically no living space. If I were in a real home the kitchen would be for necessity use but my living room would be where all the living really happens!! I am disappointed that all these tiny home builders seem obsessed with kitchens and assume that a person wants to spend all their time standing in a kitchen preparing meals and eating and then go straight to bed and do it all over and over. No where to stretch out on the couch or recline and enjoy company or even just my cats and my TV. So, how about a tiny house with a minimalist kitchen and an expanding living and entertaining area!!! This industrial kitchen is beautiful and larger than what I have in my current stick built home!! Like most normal people, I cook in my kitchen I do not live in it 24/7.

Did you not see the two gray recliners in front of the wall where a tv mount is mounted? There is even a couple of shelves under where the tv would go & what looks like a workspace looking out of the window. The area is big enough for a small sofa or love seat they just chose to have recliners.

Quote “I am disappointed that all these tiny home builders seem obsessed with kitchens and assume that a person wants to spend all their time standing in a kitchen preparing meals and eating and then go straight to bed and do it all over and over. ”

That is not how it works, custom builders don’t make assumption but rather only build what their clients tell them to build, that’s the whole point of custom building that the client makes the choices and the builder can only provide options… So these homes actually represent their owner’s preferences, not the other way around…

JUST SAYING THAT I WOULD LIKE SOMEONE TO DESIGN SOMETHING TO LIVE AND RELAX IN THAT THEY PUT AS MUCH THOUGHT INTO AS THEY DO THE KITCHEN!!! WHEN A TINY HOUSE HAS A CHEFS KITCHEN THEN IT IS ALL ABOUT THE KITCHEN AND NOT ABOUT LIVING.

But not everyone lives the same way… So living will be different for different people, that’s life… People have to be true to themselves, not how others want to live as that’s not living their life either…

It is true that we all live differently. BUT I have looked and thousands of tiny house designs in the past few years and all seem to be more about the kitchen and not about living rooms where you might entertain a guest or so. And most of those designs have not been custom ordered. They are just designs to browse thru to see what you want. I have yet to see anyone put a living room as a priority in their designs. Yes, if I were ordering one I would certainly want changes but we are trying to promote a concept to a lot of people who see Tiny Homes for the first time and I think more people than me might be turned off by not having a real living room. We sacrifice all the other unused spaces that exist in our normal sized homes to live tiny, but would you give up your living room if you didn’t have to?? Where do you seat your guests and family when the come to visit? Is it in your kitchen or in your living room?? See if you are honest and really answer that question you will see my point. A kitchen is a necessity not a focal point and entertainment center unless you have a large large house and lots of large islands for them to gather around. Tiny homes do not have that luxury so quit trying to make the kitchen as big in a tiny house as it is in a normal home and show me living room space that is usable!!

I understand your complaint, but that’s not how it actually works.

Again, most tiny homes are custom. Most people making the transition to tiny living just don’t all give up everything they are used to and many do consider the kitchen one of the requirements for full time living. So scaling it down is often the most resisted.

For many, tiny living is more a journey and not an immediate goal. While some may never give up some aspects of the life they are used to and would consider a smaller kitchen unusable for full time living.

You’re not the first to blame builders for what is actually the owner’s choices. Except most who do that take the opposite view that the builders aren’t providing enough priority to the kitchen.

Yes, not everyone would prefer to give up living space but the problem is many will prioritize other spaces more. While there are also other reasons like those going tiny may just prefer their living be done somewhere else and actually don’t need the home to serve that purpose.

Understand, there are many different ways to do it and many different opinions of what should be prioritized. Some builders actually would agree with you. Like Randy of Incredible Tiny Homes has expressed that he prefers larger living space and tries to push that whenever he can but for custom builders the client is always right and ultimately it’s the clients that make the choices…

While most tiny home builders are not big corporations but rather small businesses or even individual contractors. So they don’t all have the resources to just build showcase models. Thus most of what you see are actually built for clients and often just shown before they get delivered to the client. Meaning they are actually a portfolio of the builder’s work, intended to inspire and show off what the builder can do but not to limit their client’s choices.

Even those that are primarily selling standard models will still often offer a variety of options that provide a level of customization to differentiate each home they build.

Besides, while you may not have seen them, there are those who have prioritized the living space as well as many other designs. They just don’t represent the majority.

Like there are tiny houses with no lofts…. There are tiny houses with walk-in closets… There are tiny houses with smaller kitchens. The Comak Tiny Home, 16′ The Mountain XL, in a recent article is an example… There’s tiny houses that expand when set up or combine multiple units to form a larger structure… There’s tiny houses with hot tubs, saunas… There are breezeway Tiny Houses… There Tiny Houses used as ADU’s… There’s tiny houses used as AirBNBs… There’s tiny houses used to run businesses, etc…

Sizes can also vary from around 50 Sq Ft to over 500 Sq Ft and be optimized for single people to whole families. To give some idea of the actual variety in the market…

So regardless of what the majority may be there are many different designs and people are all free to come up with their own.

It’s just anything dealing with custom, you’re going to see what other people prefer and they won’t all agree with what you would prefer… The trick is to understand that doesn’t matter, as you get to choose what a custom builder will make for you and you don’t have to base it on what anyone else has done…

That is amazing! The desk area is fabulous. Great light and a place to sit and work or stare out the window. The ceiling is great. Very different and visually appealling. I want one!
