This is very well done, homey, and inviting. stairway treatment is great.
Can’t see how one could improve on this.
One thing that would be nice to see on all of the tiny home offerings here is the width, length, and height from ground up to the peak listed.
and I see that the towing vehicle is the cute VW bus.? Just kidding of course.

Looks to me like she may have been living in the VW until she got the THOW. That might be a good way to save up for it, eh?

Great tiny. Well made home. I just think one could get overdosed on all that tongue and groove pine wood after a while. I hope all who are building tiny homes now are getting the highest R value insulation possible, such as sprayed in soy foam insulation. It may cost a little more now but the payoff in lower energy costs will last the life of the tiny home, and damping noise inside and out too. Again, it was a super nice tiny.

One builder told me that soy is not such a good insulating material; it’s eco friendly, but not as efficient as other things. I saw one video and the woman said she used hemp mats and seemed happy with the results. But I agree that one should get the highest R rating possible; it will save on fuel bills.

Is that a safe at the back of the wardrobe? If so, don’t think it will be that secure considering it is screwed into wood.

No, that is the circuit breaker panel.

    • Rev

      Eric,

Good catch. Yes, that is a safe. In it, she keeps all her treasured circuit-breakers hidden from larcenous eyes.

One can never be too sure these days. A moment’s inattention, and the whole shooting match could be at the nearest pawnshop.

To your question about ‘screwing in the wood’, I am sure she mounted her safe in an extra-strong place.

This Tiny house has a really nice homey vibe. I bet it feels great to live in. I love the simplicity of the design, the woodwork, the stairs, the bathroom and the beautiful little kitchen. The decorating is just beautiful too. It provides all you need to live simply within a very attractive, comfortable and cosy environment. Beautiful!

Maybe I’m not looking hard enough, but this is the first stair I’ve seen in a THAT that has a loft space next to it. It’s also the first I’ve seen with a carpeted upstairs. I’m not planning on having a loft, but this one is impressive.

Wow! Great job. the only thing I would change is the sticker in the shower stall. I would have put it a little lower….That’s a joke because I’ve noticed that people love to tell others what is wrong with their THOW instead of what is right. My dream is to make a THOW with my high school students and I have been looking for the perfect project. This certainly looks like a contender. Thanks for the inspiration!

Lovely tiny home and nice design. I would like to know if that is a wall heater in the bathroom. If so, who makes it? I’ve seen that in several T.H.

    • Peter Piper
      April 11, 2016, 9:59 pm

Why Boo the compost toilet? What’s wrong with a compost toilet? Am I missing something? I’ve never had any experience with a compost toilet. Are they bad?

      • Theo
        April 11, 2016, 11:35 pm

Only thing I’ve got against them is, that one looks like it’s going to be very pricey. You can actually make one for just about nothing, if you know what you’re doing. I was going to make one, then found one for about $14, which would have been what it would have cost in materials, plus my time. So I bought one, to use in my shop. When I find a van I’m happy with, I’ll be putting a compost toilet it in too.

My wife had that model of composting toilet in her pottery studio back in Ontario where we used to live. The toilet worked perfectly fine and at the end of the season we would empty it ….providing her with perfectly good
soil for the garden…Just added peat moss as it was used and cranked the
handle…did require a roof vent and a tiny fan. If I ever have an off grid
tiny house or cabin I am pretty sure I will purchase the Nature’s Head model….the Sun Mar is pretty pricey.

    • Megan
      April 14, 2016, 2:25 pm

the only reason I am agreeing with you on that particular toilet is that it’s way too high for someone 4’10” and in a wheelchair.
There are shorter models out there.

  • Nan

Very nice. Love a lot about this little gem stylewise, but as with most tinies, it lacks comfortable seating. Where does one curl up with a good book, watch a movie and cuddle, dawdle over dinner and wine? One doesn’t need a lot of space to do any of that, but two hard stools and a bench with pillows isn’t going to do the trick,

Nice woodwork. And wonder of wonders, a real staircase, complete with bannister. It would be a requirement if I were designing for a loft, but seems to be something other designs avoid. It would appear that the loft is not tall enough to stand in tho, that sounds standard also.

I really like this one. Real stairs, actual railings on stairs and loft, the little hangout space on the end of the kitchen counter, the way they found space for a washer/dryer and larger fridge and even hanging space for clothes. They did a great job of tucking a lot into this THOW.

Love the staircase and the loft railing. The selections of furniture and accoutrements tell us that the owner has a sophisticated approach to decor. Kudos!

Well first off what is the length and width of this house? Next I would remove the washer/dryer unit. Where shelves are I would put stacking washer and dryer. I would then move the drawers in the kitchen to where the washer was and where the drawers where put in an apartment size stove. I would also get rid of composting toilet and put in RV low flush toilet in. These are just my thought of how I would want this house.

Am afraid to even ask but how much did this cost…and very seriously looking into having one made for me…but I am def on a string shoe budget and am afraid this may all be just a pipe dream for me to finally own something of my own..:(

    • Theo
      April 13, 2016, 2:23 pm

Shoe string budget? Then I would say, no, you cannot afford one. However, older campers are available for little money, some people will even give one away just to get it out of their driveway. Some of these are not really worth the time, money, and effort, to refurbish. Others are very worth it, and often need very little work (and money), to have a satisfactory dwelling. If I wanted something on wheels, and didn’t feel like designing and building something, that is the route I would go. Also, I like a lot more of the refurbished travel trailers, then I do these factory built rigs. Except the only thing I would want on wheels would be a boat suitable to live in. Check your local codes, etc.

The website says it’s 8.5′ wide x 24′ long x 13.4′ high. I thought it was neat that it also has a special custom 4ft. pull out/retractable front porch.

You know what I love more about this house aside from the railing going up the staircase and around the loft…? It’s not over stuffed with things, and it’s not so cluttered that you can hardly get the light of day in it… Beautiful…! I love down sizing, I want to down size so badly, I could only wish I could find a sucker , I mean buyer for my house, so I can down size finally and go back to my life on my little island beach…!

Looks like every panel box I ever saw in this country. As for clutter–you don’t need a tiny house to get rid of your crap now. Just do it. Whatever space you have now will look better.

One of my office parks got a tenant who, shall we just say, was very short. Complained the urinal was mounted too low and yes he had a point. Seems the plumber measured from the bottom instead of the lip. Inspector missed it, my super missed it…and it took a tiny man to bring it up…so to speak. Had to remount it. Had to do this on a weekend since I couldn’t turn the water off for everyone else while this was being done. Did not have any spare tiles that we busted out so couldn’t get anything to match the shade. New tiles. Other tenants complained they heard him in the bathroom…doing whatever. Had to soundproof bathroom walls. Baffles in HVAC. Finally bought them all radios for their offices…Serenity now. He quit shortly after.

Almost perfect! The only things I would have done differently is add a clothes washer, probably take out a few shelves and install it in the shelving area in the kitchen. Also would not use pine; maybe cedar instead (longer lasting). One of the best THOWs I’ve seen… clean straight lines makes it look roomy. Lots of light and a great sleeping area.

This is my dream home, really, except that I want my living area under the sleeping loft, with an L-shaped “real” COUCH and/or futon.
I wonder if anyone else has this concern: I am a widow, and will be living alone when I build my THOW. I want a SOLID FRONT DOOR and smaller windows (too small to climb through) a little “higher up” so that I can have both light AND privacy. Though I am FAR from old, weak, or otherwise, the THOW with those French doors make me NERVOUS. Soooooo easy to break in to! Yes, I have a concealed-carry permit and can protect myself…why tempt fate? Anyone else????
