I do like these Escape houses…but, in general, with tiny houses, is anyone else skeeved out by a sink right next to a couch or a bed? Seems unsanitary, to me. I’m not just picking on Escape–it really does creep me out.

I’m not skeeved out by sink-bed proximity, but I reckon one would have to be more careful than in a more spacious abode. Also, the residents of this house aren’t likely to be preparing a raw turkey for roasting (for example). Simple meals might make clean up simpler. I’m more concerned about the lack of auditory privacy if more than one person inhabits a tiny house. But it’s a trade off, and we can adapt. And the great thing about a tiny house is that, while you have to keep it clean, it won’t take much time to do so.

Fair enough–one persons skeeve is another persons “eh.”

          Haha! Well put!

I don’t have any experience living in a tiny home and have never even been inside one. However, I have read from others who do live, or have lived, in a tiny home that while they’re easier to clean, they also get dirty a lot quicker.

I don’t believe that myself. What happens is the dirt that is tracked in, is deposited in a smaller space, so it “seems” like more than in say a conventional house. Hence the “appearance” of more dirt.

Auditory privacy can be achieved with cheap foam style earplugs. Problem solved. 🤣

I agree, I don’t like most tiny homes general layout with the bathroom right next to the kitchen. YUCK!!

If you mean bathroom as in toilet, then yes, but if you mean as in bath then no. And lets face it, most tiny homes have at the most 2 people. So what’s the problem… smell? Well then they have a problem when you do a number 2.

I’m far less concerned about sinks than the toilet itself located in close proximity to kitchen and dining areas though it’s the usually disarray or general uncleanliness that I find concerning.

I usually close the door when I use the bathroom, and shut the lid when I flush.

Exactly Janee! There are trade offs for going tiny. One being… There’s only so many square feet to fit it all into.

    • May 8, 2020, 11:37 pm

You can close the door and shut the lid, but the odors may still waft out. LOL!!

Which is where a window in the toilet comes in useful… or an extractor fan. A quiet one of course. 😊

I know, right? As long as you stay seated for the whole performance, there shouldn’t be any problems : )

Love the wood interior. Too many windows in the bedroom; wouldn’t want to wake up in the middle of the night being up close and personal with an intruder.

Ha ha, if there’s an intruder they are going to be up close whether its a tiny house or not generally.

Haha! Yeah, I think you’d notice the breaking through of the bedroom window 2′ from your bed in time to get some distance between you, right? I’d already be out the front door!!

I think we can all agree for the most part that this is beautifully done. We each have our own preferences and phobias that, if we built our own version, we would make changes to accommodate our feelings. I don’t have a problem with the kitchen sink location but that is an easy fix…move it over, further away from the sofa. The bigger issue is having the bathroom adjacent to the kitchen, as was pointed out by a comment or two. Generally speaking, my preference would be to have a U-shaped kitchen on one end, then the living room, next the bathroom and finally the bedroom. Having the bathroom closer to the bedroom makes lots of sense to me so you don’t have to walk to the end of the THOW in the middle of the night or after a shower. Having it next to the bedroom would increase your privacy and take away the risk of odors wafting into the kitchen. Having so little counter space in the kitchen is disappointing. Counters can be used for more than just meal prep…art projects, for example, or a desk area if configured just right…so the tiny counters can limit the utility of that area. This THOW is very livable, for sure, but it’s nice to know that one can be customized to suit our particular needs. Perhaps the designers will read our comments and use them as food for thought. Thanks for sharing!
