The Arrow Anglers: Family Skoolie Living

This adorable family of four (@thearrowanglers on Instagram) started by renovating RVs, then moved to Saudi Arabia before coming back to the US and fulfilling a longtime dream of turning a school bus into their home.

Now they live in their stationary bus in Alabama. It’s absolutely gorgeous inside, with a sunset-painted door, kids’ bunks, and a huge king-sized bed in the back.

One of the coolest features is their shower, with an awesome skylight to make it feel like you’re showering outdoors. We got to interview the family and do a Q&A, which you can read after the photo tour below!

What are your name(s)?

Van and Lauren Jonss

How many people (and animals) are living in your home?

4 people (2 adults two children)

How long have you lived tiny?

6 months

What do you do for work? Or do you travel full-time?

Van is a Superintendent for a General Contractor here in Bham Alabama

What are you hoping to get out of living tiny/small?

Ease of life!

Describe your decorating style and philosophy.

We like cleanliness and simplicity. We wanted all our storage to be lower so we could make the upper part of the bus feel more open and free. We went with colors that are light and “joyful”!

What inspired you to choose a bus (rather than say a tiny house or an RV)?

We’ve wanted to do a bus for a few years. We lived in a fifth wheel RV for a while before we moved overseas and we wanted the challenge of renovating a bus!

How did you acquire your home? Did you do a lot of renovations?

We found it on Ebay but it was only 45 min away from us. Yes, it was a school bus previously.

What are bills/utilities like compared to before?

Before what? We lived in Saudi Arabia before living in the bus 😂

Before going tiny, what was life like?

We lived overseas!

Is there anything from your old life that you miss?

We miss the ability to host large groups of people comfortably inside!

What benefits are you experiencing after going tiny?

Easier to clean, spend more time outside, more time with out kids!

What about some challenges?

There’s four of us in 260 square feet 😂

What makes your tiny home special?

It’s very unique to our priorities and what we wanted in a tiny house! The shower lifted for Van to be able to shower comfortably, the king size bed, the crib!

What is your favorite part of your tiny home?

What helpful advice would you give to others interested in going tiny?

DO IT! You won’t regret it!

    This is a very cool bus! I love the colors and the light wood. the kids’ bunks are beautiful, and I like the way you put the bathroom sink in a place where it could be used separately from the toilet room. Everything is lovely, including the family. Happy trails : )
