Van Description/Backstory

With an architecture and design/build background, I built a tiny home in this tank of a van. It features robust millwork, an electric system to keep you off-grid for however long, and loads of storage and amenities to support full-timing with a partner. We’re just coming off of a 4-month journey, national park hopping from New York to Seattle, while working remotely. We refinished and improved the van here and looking to downsize to a Metris 🙂 cheers, Will

I never saw where the refrigerator or batteries were stored. Clever ideas for storing various appliances. Making that bed looks tricky. This design may not work so well with short wheel base. What safety issues may arise if that fireplace is a wood burner?

Looks like they packed some things behind the driver and passenger seats, like a portable generator and could be where they put the batteries but they may be mounted underneath the van, like the water tanks… The fridge is by the rear, under the bed/sofa…

While it is a wood stove and has the normal safety issues of a wood stove… It needs to be properly installed, have proper clearances from any combustibles, needs to be well maintained to prevent things like creosote build up that can clog the chimney and create a fire hazard, anything combustible you have to worry about proper ventilation and Co2 buildup, be aware of hot surfaces that can burn if touched, etc. Good to keep a fire extinguisher near it and like any heat source just keep aware and respectful of it…

The wood burner is compliant. There is heat resistance at the back, probably asbestos, and the fireplace is structurally mounted on the table which in turn is mounted to the floor. And… there is asbestos underneath to stop the table catching fire. All in all, I’d say that is the safest installation I’ve ever seen on this site.

Where can I find one of the small wood burning fireplaces?
I’ve been fixing up a 14×20 outbuilding and want to include a fireplace to help with the heating.

Check out https://cubicminiwoodstoves.com/ — they are in Canada and have a number of tiny stoves.

Yeah, Cubic Mini, Dwarf from Tiny Wood Stoves, The Hobbit from Salamander stoves, The Kimberly Wood Stove, and Morso Squirrel Wood Stove are among the more common options… There’s also options from Dickinson and a few other brands that have options because they cater to marine use or camping stoves.

Though, the Cubic Mini is one of the most affordable options out of them…

While another option to look into is pellet stoves as they not only come in a wide range of sizes but can have extended run capacity, fuel can be auto fed from a reserve, and they allow for thermostat control. Some even let you still have a window to see the fire and there are ways to make your own pellets if they can’t be easily sourced in your area…

Alternatively, there are exterior wood furnaces/boilers that can be run independently of the home to allow more control, more efficient fires that can burn around 2000 degrees, and provide both heat for indoor conditioning and for hot water… Some can even generate some electricity to supplement your energy supply but all of that does require sufficient land to place it on and sufficient supply of wood to run it but it’s to show there are other options and more if you consider other energy sources besides just wood…

No shower no go and the bed is very narrow. Not for me considering the asking price.
Beside that the sprinter doesn’t have sufficient headroom for my 6’4″.

Please tell me that the collage pictures are not going to be used anymore. They are difficult to decipher and give a disjointed view of the room. I need to see a picture, a whole picture, and nothing but the picture so help me, Alex. Please?🥺 Thanks!
