Rare 400 Sq. Ft. 1957 8′ x 50′ Spartan Executive Mansion Trailer

This post contains affiliate links.

This restored 1957 Spartan ‘Executive Mansion’ travel trailer is up for auction on eBay right now. (SOLD: Post taken down)

It’s 8′ wide by 50′ long so it’s approximately 400 square feet of space inside with no sleeping lofts.

Finding this trailer really opened my eyes to what else is possible with tiny houses on trailers.

According to the owner/seller on eBay, “After WWII  Tulsa Oklahoma’s Spartan Aircraft company switched its production of aircraft to travel trailers, including this spacious and ever so rare park model, the 50′ Executive Mansion.”

It’s technically a park model because it has no holding tanks so it’s designed to be used at a campground, RV park/community, or on your own land.

The thing is, the parks won’t take these old beauties anymore.

Well that’s not cool. Another option I’d like is to park it on my own homestead so I can grow my own food, build another tiny house, etc.

It does’t take a train to pull one of these. They are well balanced and tow incredibly easy.

I like how they maintained the “stainless steel” motif outside as well as inside!

That would be the original aircraft aluminum it was made from on the outside. Little work was required out there according to the article.

Most states only allow a 40ft trailer without a permit so if this is 50ft it might cost to move.

Thanks for posting this. It’s good to see another option, but now I know what those higher ceilings are good for; room to BREATHE.

My Grandparents used to have one of these with a cabana built on one side – It was on Lido Island in Balboa California! Unfortunately when the lease ended it was too expensive to stay there, now it’s $2,500 per month.

Great restauration which I have seen on ebay before. Put it under roof with a nice covered porch to park your truck and to hang out. What else somebody
    is in need of?

When I was a teenager in the 50’s we lived in 8X45 Spartan trailer, 2 bedroom. It cost $6,200.00 in 1956 which was a lot of money. It was top of the line of trailers then My dad pulled the trailer with a 1951 Chevrolet 3/4 ton pickup that had 95 horsepower. The fastest it would go with the trailer was about 50 miles an hour.

    Thanks all for your comments!
The restoration took about 16 months in total.
It was pretty expensive to restore, and took a lot of thinking. All told I didn’t make much considering my time invested. The grass cloth wallpaper really solved a lot of problems as the wood was a little tired and patchy. The kitchen and bathroom got stainless to make it easier to maintain. We had to replace all the plumbing and the whole kitchen. Window air was installed and fully reflective tinted windows
to keep it cool here in California in the summer.
I wish I could have kept it, but as others have said local parks wouldn’t accept these oldies.
It was saved it from the wrecking ball and it should last many many more years. There aren’t many mansions like this one, probably should be in a museum someday.
Saving Americana one step at a time.

      ….did you sell your Spartan?

      Thank you

    Hello Bill!
I found your gorgeous Spartan Imperial Mansion today and it’s the same as mine. Except my Spartan isn’t completely restored, not even close to all the incredible work you did. Since you installed all new plumbing, I’m writing a note to see if you can help me figure out how to access the plumbing, especially the Bathtube’s drainpipes. All the other pipes seem easily accessible.
After removing the undercarriage aluminm sheeting I looked under the trailer to try and locate the Bathtube’s pipes, but it looks like it may be on top of the heating duct vent which is blocking any view and access. Can’t see anything. I haven’t removed all the very thin insulation yet, but plan to do that next.
I have a ton of questions, but I don’t want to burden you. Any links to information on restoration advice and information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks you for your consideration Bill.
    Gary
I was planning on attaching a photo of my Spartan but no option here.

Have a 50′ spartan executive mansion for sale. It is in rough condition on the inside, but the outside is in great condition, as it has been inside a shop for a while. Don’t know the history of this particular trailer, just want it out.
